The lost lore of the banished. (G)
In the stillness of the dark, with all of its veiled beauty, you may have the chance to meet something extraordinary. These beings, both corporeal and not, vibrant in their awe but shadowed and hidden. The lost clan of an ancient species, they wander now, their hunger for the light insatiable. They are the Shadowed Chimeras, dark creatures descending from the Aldo-Shira, the shadebeasts..Before I tell you about their present lives, perhaps its better to start at the beginning. We should go back, far back, to the days of Val-di-Kama. The world embraced by the crystalline moons.
To the far reaches of the void is your course. Far and long you must travel to glimpse the azure glow of the Crystalline Moons. Like glittering gems among the cosmos, this star system has no sun, but instead has four moons made up of shimmering crystals that give of a spectacular glow. This glow, in all of its celestial wonder, is the source of energy in this small but dense system.
At the center of this surreal orbit is the veiled ringed planet of Val-di-Kama. Deep forests of bioluminescent splendor, silver waves crashing against black shores, and the reflective rays of their beloved moons dancing across vast monolithic mountains and deep violet hued valleys. Within this twilight paradise, live the Aldo-Shira. Beneath the embrace of its moons, the Aldo-Shira flourished. Their planet was rich in gems and crystals, valued immeasurably by Aldo-Shira....and others.
The Aldo-Shira loved reflective surfaces. They loved to watch the light bounce and shimmer. They could never survive in the light that our sun gives our world, as it is far too harsh and the system that they come from has never had a sun. They collect crystals and gems and adorn themselves and their villages with these trinkets. Valued far more than monetarily, these trinkets and baubles are valued as gifts from their diety. Sacred items that they believe bring them closer to the Halvir, the spirit of their moons.
The largest of the moons, Ghorah gives off the brightest glow, that can be seen to the farthest reaches of their system. It is seen as the essence of life and glows an unnatural but unrivaled beautiful blue. The second largest, Jorah, is seen as the essence of love and community and gives off crimson rays. The third moon, Mohrah, is revered as the essence of knowledge and sends emerald light bouncing across the Lost Plains. The smallest of the moons, also closest in orbit to Val-Di-Kama, is Vorah, which closely resembles diamond and is thought to be the link to the gods. Its prismatic light giving strength to the other moons and painting the ethereal starlit sky in colors unseen in the sky we look at today on earth.
In this paradise they found home. They lived here for many millennia, unconcerned with the other systems or developing further technologically. They were at peace.
But their system did not stay hidden...and all things must end. Several other systems, awash in their greed and lust for technological advancement, had come to notice the glowing system, this light in the void. Its distance and the harsh realm of cosmos between Val-Di-Kama and the rest of the universe kept them safe for a time.
But technology advanced and it was not long before the Aldo-Shira would see strange moving stars in their eternal night sky. Those with clairvoyance could sense the danger ahead, but could do nothing against such a force.
It was not long before their oasis in the stars became the center of attention to treasure hunters, scientists, collectors, and many others seeking the riches of the veiled planet. But it was not just the planet that was sought. The outsiders eyes also turned to the moons, vast and valuable beyond words.
At first, the Aldo-Shira tried to be peaceful with the invasive visitors, tried to teach them of the importance of this world and their beautiful moons...but their teachings and pleas fell on deaf ears and blind eyes. When met with the Aldo-Shiras resistance, violence would not be long in waiting.
When the conflicts began, it did not take long to realize how horrifically one sided it was. The Aldo-Shira, as fearsome as they appeared, were peaceful and had no need for weapons, and their magic, which was once used for the cultivation of their world, was turned dark as they used it to defend themselves.
But magic could only do so much against the arsenal of the invaders. Many they were, and they dwarfed the Aldo-Shira in sheer numbers.
Many died in these fights. Many did not have to. Children were used as bartering tools to get information from the terrified Aldo-Shira. Locations of their mines and how to navigate them. It did not take long before the Aldo-Shira were prisoners of their own world....but their nightmare had just begun.
After their planet had been mined through....after their forests and animals had been pillaged....after their beautiful silver oceans ran brown with the invaders pollution...they turned their tools and machines to the moons, most sacred and revered to the Aldo-Shira. Many more fights raged on but as before, they were defeated and the visitors left the Aldo-Shira on their ravaged planet, only to watch as their moons, their beloved Halvir, was chipped away to nothingness. The glow weakened...its magnificence spent. Soon a darkness like they had never known fell upon their dying world. Not warm and comfortable, no resemblance to the darkness that had been their home. This lasting night was cold and unforgiving.
Without the light and energy from their moons, the system began to crumble into dust. Many more suffered and died before the remaining elders of their people decided to save a few.....just a few, for that is all the magic they had. They poured the last bit of energy they had into one final act of sacrifice, after so many. They imbued a few of the young and strong with the ability to travel between dimensions, so that they may be free and start again somewhere new. These few chosen, would suffer greater than any as they watched their planet wither away...their utopia once graced by the eternal glow of their moons, was gone.
With the few trinkets they had, they set off in different ways across the stars, searching for something that resembled home. They left behind their names and history and gave themselves a new name, The Shadowed Chimeras.
