A companion piece to 'Dying Confession', this was an image I drew randomly a few years ago, along with a short piece of writing, to flesh out Luther's backstory. It eventually turned into a novel entitled 'Heretic' (http://furplanet.com/shop/item.aspx?itemid=625).
This has always been a really important piece to me. In fact, it's one of the few graphite sketches I've refused to sell over the years, and sits near my desk. It accidentally launched my writing career, when writing was something I'd long given-up on. Despite that, I was always really unhappy with how the original image came out when I colored it. Even the linework really needed a re-touch.
Since this seems to be the year of re-makes, I've decided to go back and 're-master' a few pieces for Anthrocon this year. Doing this one in acrylic paint was a huge challenge, because it's still a medium I really, REALLY struggle with. I feel I could have done this piece more justice if I'd just broken down and done it digitally, but the point was to exercise an area where I've made the most progress, and try to learn something new in the process. I feel like every new painting for me is forcing me to learn about the medium, and I hope some day to be able to bring out the color in my head, but for now, I'm at least not unhappy with the result.
This painting is roughly 8x10 inches, on Bristol
