"Our King is a leech, a plague amongst our land. He pillages and destroys with
the utmost cruelty; whose only ambition is to sate his greed and gluttony.
I'll stop at nothing to purge him from this world, with no heed to any dire consequence.
I'd die again for you, my love, Marian."

In this AU King Richard was murdered in a coop by King John and his snake advisor. Initially they lived peacefully amongst in the world not revealing their true nature. This all changed when Richard died and John took the thrown.
Ultimately, John wanted to make an example of Robin and had him hanged (in his mortal life.) The noose miraculously didn't snap his neck on the fall, and amused that he was hard to kill, he had the guards take his weak body to his throneroom and what he thought, 'consumed him.' To truly make him die a horrible death...
Shortly after he had the guards throw his 'corpse' off the waterfall that he and Marian once so enjoyed. Time passes and he returns to us now Monte Cristo style with a vengeance to save Marian and justice for his death and becoming into this heinous creature.
Sorry for the tangent- felt it was necessary.

Yes, John is a vampire of sorts; as was Richard. The royal family kept their nature a secret for centuries and because of their long lives and wisdom thought themselves worthy to care for those who cant help themselves (mortals/peasants.)
Marian, is a damphir-- and although she has garnet eyes, she is mortal and does not eat the blood or flesh of living things. She does however, have an other worldly like nature that she can't control, similar to 'Vicar Amelia" from Bloodborne. She cannot control this state nor is aware when she goes into it. This is in part to her damphir nature.
John has seen this power firsthand after he tells her that Robin is dead, and in her grief she became a terrible beast. He holds her hostage in the hopes hell aquire this power in an heir. If he cannot have her do his bidding, he would claim it in other means.
Vampires in this AU are more akin to demons or feral beasts, not the garlic fearing, reflection displaced vampires we see in alot of cinema. "A preternatural being, commonly believed to be a reanimated corpse, that is said to suck the blood or consume the flesh of sleeping prey at night." As the term vampir* is actually universal to any creature that does so. Robin is certainly reanimated, where as Richard or John were born into it.

Honestly, I didn't think it would be received as well as it did (especially on twitter). Initially it was just for fun cause I wanted a reason to draw them in gothic attire with some vampires qualities. But, due to request I might draw more characters and write some scenes and bio for them. Compile it on a PDF that people can peruse. Alternate worlds and storyline are always fun, in my opinion.
I don't often find artists who create worlds I am genuinely curious about, but your art carries such sense of world. Look forward to more from you, always.
(also, really really hoping to be able to snatch a commission from you next time. <3 I have a vampire version of my alter ego and you are on the must-commission list for him xD )

The movie would've been better, imho, if they'd left in the scene where Robin is in hiding while injured, and almost killed when Prince John shows up... only for King Richard to appear and stop him. But apparently, Disney decided to delete that scene and go with Robin escaping the moat unharmed from the volley of arrows shot at him.
Still, it's possibly one of the best interpretations of the legend. Maybe not the best or most well-made Disney film (and probably not the most popular), but it's still worth a watch to this day. And it has some hidden genius in it if you know where to look.
