Very, very, VERY long overdue follow-up to this picture: https://www.furaffinity.net/view/15936168/
It's taken a long time to get to where we are, but we are finally slowly coming to the point where stories of transgenderism in video games, movies, cartoons, TV, and other media are finally being told without shame or stigma.
After a long time of obfuscating, hiding, altering, joking about, or simply denying things like this, it is truly wonderful to see characters no longer having to exist in a certain "limbo" to avoid the sensibilities of those who want everything to make sense in their little box.
Nine years ago, two Nintendo characters' identities were hidden, censored, obscured, or just played for laughs. But times change, and Vivian and Birdo both stand proud as awesome characters and role models to people who need and deserve them.
We love you two!

Okay, so here's the thing. I am not a fan of Nintendo in general these days. Over the past few years, they've been doing some very cruel and spiteful things behind the scenes. Things which I have, do, and will continue to point out.
But that being said, I still believe in giving credit where it is due. And it took a lot of guts for the localization team of the Paper Mario Thousand-Year Door to finally make Vivian's gender clear to all audiences. In this insanely trans-hostile environment, that sort of thing truly does deserve celebration and thanks.
It maybe took them far too long to do this, but they did so. And they have my gratitude.
Sorry this took so long to make. I've been spending the past few weeks getting moved and settled into my new apartment. But I'll be making up for lost time with a vengeance! There will be another special Pride Month picture coming out next, followed by a series of character pictures from a newer game that came out which I deeply love.
Happy Pride Month, everyone. Stay safe, stay healthy, and stay true to who you are, no matter what that might be.

Nintendo definitely has been speedrunning burning all goodwill they have recently. I stopped actively buying their products new after the earthworm jim stunt..2? years ago. (still grab them used because nintendo doesn't see a dime of it). And prefer not to buy games from other companies on the Switch if I can help it to keep nintendo from getting that 30%.
