And then there is that one guy... who walks the whole land like some kind of god, predicting every encounter he meets and cruises through the world without any other encounters. Then he goes down to the DragonLord at like... level 2... and defeats the world boss by the skin of his teeth.
To behold that speed run is to question all digital life in general.

"Welcome, Warrior. I am the Dragonlord -- King of Kings.
I have been waiting long for one such as thee.
I give thee a chance to share this world and to rule half of it if thou will now stand beside me.
What sayest thou? Will the great warrior stand with me?"
And when you agree to such vague terms, the screen turns a shade of red and I've always imagined the DragonLord doing some kind of TF on the warrior... the last thing he hears is "Thou art such a fool!"
I didn't need to look past the first portion of the top of this drawing to see that it was DragonQuest based. Major thumbs up.
Ahhh... but what does the foolish warrior become when he is TF'ed? That, I have never known the answer to.
And, as a side thought, shame the warrior never knew the spell 'BeDragon". Might have been a very interesting battle, indeed.

Actually, in the original, the world just... ends. Red screen and what happens is left up to interpretation.
I've always favored a transformation. But for such an early game, it does qualify as ending two of three potential endings. (Which was extremely rare back then.)
It's really a sucker punch to someone that didn't save before going to that final dungeon. And think about the person that never saved at all. Making that choice is an absolute game over with hours lost.
Ending three is far smaller in effect. IF you know where to find the sacred item and choose not to save the princess... the ending sequence does change. And one would typically think saving the princess was mandatory. But a true mind blower for a game so simple and direct... she's a side quest.
