[Enhancement] Better ToolbarItem (Secondary)

Summary

There are a lot of things that should change or updated from Xamarin.Forms in .NET MAUI and one of the small but noticeable ones is toolbar secondary items icon support in Android and WinUI and changing/updating its appearance in iOS.

It would be really nice to change the secondary items appearance in iOS from this:

Just like Android and Windows platform (with a three dots button and popover) we can have almost same experience on iOS too.

Displaying icons on secondary ToolbarItem on android is also needed. Enhancement is open since 2018. An native android it is supported. xamarin/Xamarin.Forms#3550

Staring with iOS 14.1 you can add a menu to a UIBarButtonItem. So it should not very complicated to implement. https://developer.apple.com/documentation/uikit/uinavigationcontroller/customizing_your_app_s_navigation_bar?language=objc

@mhrastegary77 I love this suggestion! It has been open in Forms since a long time as already pointed out. I think newer iOS versions now have better APIs to support this too. Thanks for opening this!

I hope I'm wrong, but this emoji together with just ".NET 7?" has a kind of negative tone to it for me. If you have something to comment please do so in a way that we can understand what you're trying to say so we don't have to interpret things yourself. That way we can keep issues on track and relevant for everyone.

What I think you're trying to ask is: is this planned for .NET 7? That seems so far away!

The answer is yes. We have our hands full with transitioning and rethinking everything from Xamarin.Forms as it as, as you probably know, we are already behind. Also, not 100% sure on how this will work, with now being part of the .NET ecosystem release cycles are a bit different than with Xamarin.Forms. But remember; .NET is now on a yearly cadence so those versions come pretty quick with previews leading up to that.

Having all that said; you're more than welcome to help out and propose something for this in the form of a specification on how you would like the API to look like and drive the discussion with others on what would be a good implementation and how to use it as a developer. All things that will relieve some pressure from our team while still making this issue move forward and not being blocked by if and when we will pick this up. Anything I can do to facilitate this, please let me know!

No worries! Just wanted to point out how your message could be received 😄 I think it's much more effective and beneficial for anything in open-source if we stick to clear communication so we can move things forward.

If you feel that a lot of people want this make sure to advertise this issue wherever you can and ask people to add an emoji on the first comment. That way we can see if a lot of people actually want this and we can prioritize accordingly.
