On a fresh VisualVM installation, using latest OpenJDK 21... Just starting would show a high non-stop CPU usage (single core), raising CPU temp to its max.

Expected behavior
Idle VisualVM (no other java processes running in host) shouldn't use that much CPU

Desktop:

  • OS: Linux
  • JDK version OpenJDK Runtime Environment (build 21.0.5+11-Ubuntu-1ubuntu124.04)
  • Version 2.1.8

This looks to me like old netbeans platform bug. Can you please try to use official VisualVM 2.1.10 from https://visualvm.github.io/download.html ?

Right, issue was happening only with 2.1.8 (which is the version packaged in ubuntu repos). Thanks!

I guess that this is only caused by 2.1.8 packaged in ubuntu repos. Even 2.1.8 from https://visualvm.github.io/releases.html should work fine. It looks to me that package in ubuntu uses really old version of netbeans platform.
