As of 3:30 PM this afternoon, Dr Sewn Breath and Pale Canvas returned home, and you can see, I hope, why I could not tell anyone anything.
She finally has her prosthetic leg.
It’s held to the stump of her leg via clamps which attach to a brace wrapped around her limb. For the sake of comfort, she still wraps her injury in gauze to increase padding between the leg and her body, but that is a minor thing in comparison to her able to walk again.
The limb itself is powered by something called an ‘Arcane Battery’, literally a diamond which has been filled with raw magic and then embedded into the device, visible here at the top front. Her Royal Highness Princess Luna took great personal interest in forging the limb, which is adjustable for her height as she grows, and smelted it herself. She said something about ‘giving the best we have to offer for one of Equestria’s most endangered and valuable denizens.’
Unlike what you might be thinking, the limb is not, actually, made entirely out of Mithril, but an alloy of Mithril and Titanium called Amordine. It has curious properties, this alloy, not least of which is that it is what the Princesses own suits of armour are made out of. It’s incredibly light, lighter than Mithril, and almost as durable. It actually exudes a magical energy that heals those using it. As we are expecting there to be some minor complications involving the limb, including rashes and irritation on her still tender wound, this is a most welcome advantage.
She was fitted with the leg the first day she was away, and has been steadily going through physical therapy to get used to using it, as well as to get her strength back in her wings. Even with the leg she can apparently fly again.
We have been invited to the Princess’s table for a meeting and dinner in a couple of nights to talk with Princesses Celestia and Luna, and apparently a seamstress is coming here tomorrow with materials to produce clothes for Canvas and I.
But, back on the topic of Canvas, I could not be prouder of her. I’ve a packet of those fruit pieces she likes hidden in my desk that I was going to give her on her return, so if you’ll excuse me, I’ve a daughter to spoil.
