    Darik's Boot and Nuke

A hard drive disk wipe and data clearing utility

Darik's Boot and Nuke ("DBAN") is a self-contained boot image that securely wipes hard disk drives (HDDs). VeraCrypt

    VeraCrypt

Open source disk encryption with strong security for the Paranoid

VeraCrypt is a free disk encryption software brought to you by IDRIX (https://www.idrix.fr) and based on TrueCrypt 7.1a. It adds enhanced security to the algorithms used for system and partitions encryption making it immune to new developments in brute-force attacks. It also solves many vulnerabilities and security issues found in TrueCrypt. This enhanced security adds some delay ONLY to the opening of encrypted partitions without any performance impact to the application use phase. This is acceptable to the legitimate owner but it makes it much harder for an attacker to gain access to the encrypted data. All released files are PGP signed with key ID=0x680D16DE, available on key servers and downloadable at https://www.idrix.fr/VeraCrypt/VeraCrypt_PGP_public_key.asc VeraCrypt can mount TrueCrypt volumes. It also can convert them to VeraCrypt format. Documentation: https://www.veracrypt.fr/en/Documentation.html FAQ : https://www.veracrypt.fr/en/FAQ.html

httpfs depends on FUSE. It uses HTTP/1.1 extensions to read arbitrary bytes from a file on a web-server. This is particular interesting for an iso, since it can be investigated (loop device) without actually downloading the whole iso.

    DwarFS

    DwarFS

A fast high compression read-only file system for Linux, Windows

The Deduplicating Warp-speed Advanced Read-only File System. A fast high compression read-only file system for Linux and Windows. DwarFS is a read-only file system with a focus on achieving very high compression ratios in particular for very redundant data. This probably doesn't sound very exciting, because if it's redundant, it should compress well. However, I found that other read-only, compressed file systems don't do a very good job at making use of this redundancy. See here for a comparison with other compressed file systems. DwarFS also doesn't compromise on speed and for my use cases, I've found it to be on par with or perform better than SquashFS. For my primary use case, DwarFS compression is an order of magnitude better than SquashFS compression, it's 6 times faster to build the file system, it's typically faster to access files on DwarFS and it uses less CPU resources.

    IPFS

    IPFS

    IPFS implementation in Go

A peer-to-peer hypermedia protocol designed to make the web faster, safer, and more open. HTTP downloads files from one computer at a time instead of getting pieces from multiple computers simultaneously. Peer-to-peer IPFS saves big on bandwidth, up to 60% for video, making it possible to efficiently distribute high volumes of data without duplication. The average lifespan of a web page is 100 days before it's gone forever. It's not good enough for the primary medium of our era to be this fragile. IPFS keeps every version of your files and makes it simple to set up resilient networks for mirroring data. The Internet has turbocharged innovation by being one of the great equalizers in human history, but increasing consolidation of control threatens that progress. IPFS stays true to the original vision of an open, flat web by delivering technology to make that vision a reality.

    fd

    fd

A simple, fast and user-friendly alternative to 'find'

fd is a program to find entries in your filesytem. It is a simple, fast and user-friendly alternative to find. While it does not aim to support all of find's powerful functionality, it provides sensible (opinionated) defaults for a majority of use cases. First, to get an overview of all available command line options, you can either run fd -h for a concise help message or fd --help for a more detailed version. fd is designed to find entries in your filesystem. The most basic search you can perform is to run fd with a single argument: the search pattern. Instead of just showing the search results, you often want to do something with them. fd provides two ways to execute external commands for each of your search results: the -x/--exec option runs an external command for each of the search results (in parallel), or the -X/--exec-batch option launches the external command once, with all search results as arguments.

    Neo-tree.nvim

    Neo-tree.nvim

Neovim plugin to manage the file system and other tree like structures

Neo-tree is a Neovim plugin to browse the file system and other tree-like structures in whatever style suits you, including sidebars, floating windows, netrw split style, or all of them at once. The biggest and most important feature of Neo-tree is that we will never knowingly push a breaking change and interrupt your day. Bugs happen, but breaking changes can always be avoided. When breaking changes are needed, there will be a new branch that you can opt into, when it is a good time for you. Aside from being polite about breaking changes, Neo-tree is also focused on the little details of user experience. Everything should work exactly as you would expect a sidebar to work without all of the glitchy behavior that is normally accepted in (neo)vim sidebars. I can't stand glitchy behavior, and neither should you.
