#133 Live Lite Server issue with Win Auto Recovery

No

I have a working CZ backup of a DELL5414 laptop that I can deploy via USB without issue. When I attempt to deploy the same backup using pxe via Live Lite Server the restore goes normally - until I reboot. The laptops go into Win Auto Recovery and I cannot get past it. Chkdsk method does not work because my backup is using Unified Write Filter (UWF) to protect the OS drive. I use Lite Server often for other devices (also with UWF) without issue. I have tried all advanced options of Lite Server I thought might help. Tried latest stable CZ version also. Tried disabling TPM on client. This is a new issue I have not encountered before. Any assistance greatly appreciated.

I have no idea about UWF, so...
This is weird since you mentioned that the restoring via USB stick has no issue. Normally the netboot in Clonezilla lite server is the same programs, except the booting mechanism is different.
I have no more solution for this, but you can try to check if all the files/partitions were restored. If so, definitely the issue might be in the boot loader, or something I do not know.
MS Windoes is a black box... It's difficult to debug.

      Steven -

I opened TT# 133 on this. The netboot restore looks normal. So it must be
the bootloader. Is there a way we can insert a different one into
Clonezilla or intercept the process to try something different?

    Insert a different one?
If you use the same version of Clonezilla live as your USB stick one to run the lite server, the client basically will use the same version to restore that. Hence it's the same in the programs. I really have no idea why it did not work.
Did you see any error messages or warning about that? Did you use the same boot mechanism, i.e., legacy BIOS or uEFI booting as the one you use in USB stick version of Clonezilla live?

Hi Steven and thanks for your response. Yes this is really frustrating. I
primarily use an older version (Bionic) to keep things unchanged for users
I supply in my field organization so no oddities are introduced. I only
upgrade to your latest whenever a Bios changes that requires a newer
version. I literally use the same USB stick to run local USB burn and
Lite-server multi-burn so nothing odd introduced there. I can take the same
client and burn flawlessly via USB, then use same stick and run Lite-server
and again the burn is successful, however the listed symptom now occurs
upon reboot - Win autorecovery takes over. This same scenario happens with
your latest release also, that is the first thing I tried to resolve it. I
also tried different prep configurations of UEFI/Legacy, and turning off
      TPM. No luck.

I could offer to ship you a client (Dell 5414) and image if you are
interested in delving into it. I could video the last part of burn and
reboot process. Any help is appreciated and I imagine could improve your
      product too.

      Thanks Steven

"I could offer to ship you a client (Dell 5414) and image if you are
interested in delving into it." -> This is the last choice when we can not solve this remotely.
If you allow me to remotely login to the lite server, and we can use IM to discuss, then maybe it's easier. Otherwise I live in Taiwan, and shipping a machine here might cost a lot and take time.
Please email me at steven at clonezilla org so that we can try the remote way, if you agree to do so.

    Steven
