Hello,
I used Clonezilla 2.7.1.22-amd64 to create a Recovery ISO of a HD image, but when I try to boot the image in either a VM (qemu/KVM or VMWare) or burned to a DVD on a real computer I get the following message:
Booting from DVD/CD
ISOLINUX 6.03 20171017 ETCD Copyright (C) 1994-2014 H. Peter Anvin et al
Failed to load ldlinux.c32
Boot failed: press a key to retry
I have to use a DVD image due to unavailability of USB on the target device.
I will try an older version of Clonezilla now, and see if it solves the problem.
Or please give testing Clonezilla live a try, e.g., Clonezilla live 2.7.2-9 or 20210309-*:

Thanks Steven, I hav since tested various combinations, and I have pinpointed the issue to the fact that I create the ISO within Clonezilla booted in qemu/KVM. If I boot and create the ISO on "real" hardware, the issue does not show up. I will test using the testing build you linked in the VM, to see if it is solved.
