Being able to define a simpler default set would streamline the workflow a lot, especially for quick batch entries. And yes, the dialog forgetting its resized window size can get frustrating fast. When adding a movie via online search is there a way to specify what year the movie came out? I'm encountering a problem when adding movies that have a commonly used title. Example; I have the 1997 animated "A Christmas Carol" but because there are SO many movies with that name it does not appear in the 20 results "Online Movie Search" returns. I tried manually adding a new entry with the name and year set then updating it online but that does not seem to change anything. I guess I'll just have to...

Ah, yes. After reworking the import process (and export process) in 5.0 I broke the compatibility towards CSV and XML files generated on older versions. I have my regrets, but that is what it is; yyou cannot import files from older version (pre 5.0).

Hi All of a sudden, datacrow began importing blanks from both XMl and CSV files I thought it may be a problem in the source file, but i've tried modifying it but it has not worked I've tried using different versions of JDK - 11, 17 and 21 - but it hasn't worked either I've also tried oracle's 21, but it also imports blanks any ideas?

Hi I just upgraded to 5.0.1 from 4.11 The program freezes after choosing a user folder it seems to run but it ends on the same set up screen Doesn´t matter if it is a new folder or an existing one, it is the same result It happens both clicking the jar file and running it on terminal I have root privileges I'm using kubuntu 24.04 and jdk 21

Hi I'm trying to upgrade from 4.11.0 to 5.0.1 Getting this error message: "Image conversion has failed. Please review the log, correct the errors and continue with the upgrade on the next startup of Data Crow. " I obiously understand that it have something to do with images. If I understood : I delete datacrow folders except data folder. And I unzip the new version in datacrow folder and it should be ok. If it isnt, I can use the back up to get my datas back. Thanks

Remove the old installation (after making a backup of it) - just delete it. Then you install / unzip the latest version. Then basically you keep the data folder on there and upgrade as is. BUT, make a backup before you do all this! That's important :-)

Sorry, I forgot to ask how to do to upgrade Datacrow. Do I delete Datacrow on my computer and seetle the new version or can I seetle the new version on the last without deleting ? And after upgrade to a new version, I have to load my datas or it will be alreday there (if I haven't to delete Datacrow on my computer before upgrade). Thanks you very much !!!!!

This will require additional logging to investigate further. I will add this to the next version, it might well be that the actual issue is hidden behind the message you are getting.

Hmmm.. nothing in the logs that help us out to be honest. I would fully have expected that the link would also be blocked if it is not working for the client. Have you tried using the hostname as the server address when starting the server itself? (-ip:<server name>, ie: -ip:WAALS-PC). I really should have named the parameter host instead, but never mind that for now.

Hi, It's a bug I think to be honest. I checked the code and you can only Edit Pictures in case you have the EditPictures permission AND you can edit at least one of the fields of the module.. (or if you are Admin indeed, as you can do anything as admin). Giving permissions to edit an item is not done through the ManageItem plugin, which is misleading I know. You need to go to Module Permissions and make at least one field editable by the user. I think this has been overcomplicated by myself... :-)...

Thanks you for your help! Going back to my "old" install and removing the '.sync-conflict' files, then creating a new backup for the "old" install and restoring that to the "new" install finally brought everything back to normal. This issue can be marked CLOSED.

I have the same problem but if it's only 1 item selected or right-clicked, the report will be successfully created. Doing it with multiple items, however, Data Crow will export the images but won't create the report file. If I click on Open Report, it says Could not open the report. Either the report is empty or no report has been selected. Event Log says Byte data not found at ..., but said file (a picture) is really in the referred directory. Probably Data Crow got confused and doesn't see some...

Hi, There are messages in the log stating that the modules already have been registered (software, movie and another one). I have seen this before where, for example, multiple copies were created by a synchronization app; can you check whether there are 'suspicious' jar files in the modules folder of the user data folder? Alternatively you could zip your settings and modules folder and send these to info@datacrow.org so I can have a better look. Cheers, Robert

Zipping/unzipping the "old" datacrow user dir was the first thing I tried. 1. I really don't understand all that is in the data_crow.log so am attaching the latest that I have. 2. I have three databases in my DataCrow install, a Video DB, a Music DB, and a Software DB. I just checked again. The Video and Music DBs seem to be fine. It is the software DB that has the issues. That's strange - it's a bit hard from here to see what's wrong. Here's what I would do; zip the entire "old" data crow user dir. Unzip this at the new location and point the Data Crow app to this folder. But that would not explain your current situation; the backup does contain everything. It;s basically a zip file of your entire work set; 1) Are there errors in the log file (data_crow.log)? 2) Are the fields gone; can you find the fields in Settings > Field Settings? Are they enable here.

Yes, All three restore options are checked. I checked the files on the old install against the files on the new install. They look like the same files. It appears the modules are there, it's just that somehow they don't seem to be "registering" in the the new install.

I'm in the process of moving from Linux Mint 21.4 to Linux Mint 22.1. I've been using DataCrow 5.0 for some time now with no problems. My set up is a dual boot with Mint 21 on one partition and 22.1 on a separate partition. I have DataCrow on a third partition where I have my "shared" apps, in other words BOTH installs point to the same "share" installs. So, both installs are pointing to the SAME datacrow-client-5.0.0.jar file. I have separate data for each install so when I first started DataCrow...

What do you mean by import? XML import, Online Search, CSV Import, upgrade, File Import (MP3, etc)? While it is true that on the upgrade Data Crow tries to protect your original order, it will fail at times. You can then manually adjust the order to your liking. After that the first image added is named picture 1 by Data Crow, second one picture 2, etcetera. The original filenames are not used for sorting nor are they stored in Data Crow.

But the order on first import for an item is alphabetical. So image with filename a1.jpg gets sorted higher than b1.jpg - I think.

Hey Alex, sorry for the late answer. It's not a plugin for datacrow. It is a standalone python script. It doesn't add tv series to datacrow. The only thing it does: if you know the imdb number of a movie, it can create data for that movie. You can import that data into datacrow.

I need more information; Are you saying that for you in the online search window, the image is not being displayed? Is there any image being displayed or just not the cover? Which online service are you using? Do you have an example of a search that delivers 50+ tracks? Please also check the log (datacrow.log file) for any errors and include these here. Thanks, Robert

Hi Cal, To start off - no, there's no option to go back to the 4.11 functionality. So on the upgrade all pictures have been moved into the pictures list. The benefit being that you no longer have to add specific picture fields. Most found that, including myself, cumbersome. You can now add 50 pictures, a 100 pictures, etc... Data Crow won't complain. The upgrade might have tried to keep the pictures in an order, but it will certainly fail at times. Not to worry though; you can change the order of...

I use Data Crow to catalog my meteorite collection with a custom module. With V4.x, I associated images of my specimens and location maps under a tab with labels "Map", "Pic 1", "Pic 2", and "Pic 3".
