Thanks for sharing this information. I'm not sure why some things work and others don't. Some APO's don't work with Equalizer APO and some do. The developer hasn't mentioned anything substantial. But perhaps he doesn't know either. Reading your post I don't understand what's going on but good to know you were able to find some solution.

Funny thing, if i enable spatial audio i have no more issues with games. I think microsoft did something in audio api with win 11, when games supported Spatial Audio or any surround sound even if you have only stereo speakers you will have audio issues, but as soon as I enable any Spatial Audio: Dolby atmos, dts etc the issues resolved. But I don’t want to use Spatial Audio with basic stereo speakers. I think I know why equalizer apo works. I have Logitech g pro x and when I install equalizer apo...

  • Peter Verbeek Peter Verbeek posted a comment on discussion General Discussion

Windows 11 has introduced "Spatial sound" which is an APO by Microsoft. I've disabled it because it interferes with, well, everything on an audio device. Look for in the Windows settings -> System -> Sound -> Click on the audio device to go to its properties -> Spatial sound to Off. Btw. If there are any other APO's (which are available in the Microsoft Store) you might need to disable them too. Do you think when I install equalizer apo and sound working as it should it’s ok? Yes, it is. The only...

I’m using stereo speakers, I’ve noticed the issues in many games after windows 11 was installed, I downgraded to win 10 and the issues was gone, install win 11 and the issues is reappearing again. It’s 100% windows 11/realtek issues, I’ve tried different drivers to no avail. I’m really don’t know what to do anymore. Only solution that worked is install microsoft driver over Realtek. But equalizer apo is another solution I guess. So you think when I install equalizer apo and sound working as it should...

  • Peter Verbeek Peter Verbeek posted a comment on discussion General Discussion

It could be that by installing Equalizer APO some other (Microsoft/Realtek?) sound effect gets bypassed or disabled. In principle this sound effect is an APO which should co-exist with Equalizer APO's APO. But in your it doesn't so Equalizer APO seems to provide a solution. Does the Realtek Audio console have a kind of surround sound feature you can engage? Btw. Note that an APO isn't part of an audio driver but may be installed together with an audio driver.

I spent an hour searching around to figure out exactly what you were doing, but I was unable to confidently identify the registry keys I needed to remove. I noticed that editor.exe was opening and querying a lot of registry keys, but I'm still a little kisskh app confused as I try to follow your instructions.

I don't play minecraft, i just posted this video as an example. But i got some other observation, i've just install equalizer apo with no tweaking in device installation and the audio is good, i think, no more issues with the audio as i described. So, i'm good, i guess? But the question is this, why it's working in games as it should only when i'm install equalizer apo? As soon as i delete eq apo the issue is returned. P. S. if I'm using microsoft audio driver, no issues at all, it's so weird.

  • Peter Verbeek Peter Verbeek posted a comment on discussion General Discussion

It's indeed a weird thing. In Minecraft there is a setting called "Directional audio". By default it's off which is normal stereo. Perhaps it's on and does therefore do this weird stuff? Also, in Windows the audio device needs to be set on stereo when this Directional audio is on. Or perhaps you could try stereo. I'm not sure if this is the same setting as on the Realtek audio console. As you've figured out the sound enhancements must be on, meaning the audio stream is going through every Audio Processing...

When utilizing Equalizer APO and ReaComp with 5.1 Dolby Atmos on Windows 11, it appears that you are experiencing problems with channel routing and dynamics, particularly with the loss of center channel clarity. This can be fixed by applying the compressor just to the channels that are necessary (e.g., do not compress the center channel excessively) and using the correct channel setting in Equalizer APO's Configurator (set it to 5.1). Additionally, make sure Dolby Atmos is set up properly for your...

I do have my Windows scaled to 120%. Perhaps that's the difference. Anyway, mind that the developer of Equalizer APO isn't very active so we don't know when or if we get what you have suggested.

  • Blue Phantom Blue Phantom posted a comment on discussion General Discussion

Interesting, I use the default config for Windows font size, general scaling is also 100%. Anyway, if you can still confirm the general issue, I gues it would be really nice to increase width of those inputs by ~50% or whatever. Real estate is no issue in those cases anyway.

  • Peter Verbeek Peter Verbeek posted a comment on discussion General Discussion

I do have more space as my font is thinner. Have you set another font in Windows, other than the default? But also in my case the spinners aren't width enough due to the new style.

  • Blue Phantom Blue Phantom posted a comment on discussion General Discussion

On Windows 11, some Equalizer APO Editor’s numeric input fields with integrated spin buttons do not have enough width: the up/down buttons are displayed inline/side by side (instead of stacked vertically as on Windows 10). This layout requires more horizontal space, causing the text content to be truncated, forcing horizontal scrolling, which is pretty bad UI. This is not really a bug in Equalizer APO itself, but due to Windows 11’s changed visual styles for common controls (UpDown/Spin controls)....

IIRC, Windows has build-in limiter which kicks in @ -0.14 dBFS ... this should prevent clipping in output but also decreases quality (quality loss may have been fixed then later versions of windows). Of course you can clip audio before output by increasing its level above 1 (0dBFS) with Preamp: command or with filters which allows gain adjusting. Also can clipping be present in your source audio (you find this information by loading audio file in audio-editor and see if there are flat parts reaching...

Ive read somewhere, I can post it if you want to? Yes, no problem. In principle as biquad filters and many other filters are phase shifting the input signal I can imagine that they need more headroom. But I'm not an expert on this. However, it can be easily seen in the peak value meter. If a signal (a sound with some frequency spread in it like a small piece of music) has certain peaks and these peaks are higher after introducing a Linkwitz-Riley high pass filter then that's proof that phase shifts...

I've seen this error before, probably on this forum. But I don't know if it had a solution. As this error pops when the Device Selector is testing the 3 available APO techniques for the mic you might try to do this manually instead. Uncheck the "Auto" check box and select an APO technique from the "Install as" dropdown box and hit the Ok button. Then try it out on your mic after lowering or amplifying it by a pre amplifying command. If this command (or any other command) is working you're done.

Peace shows what Windows determines as peak values of 100%. This doesn't have to be a problem when this only occurs momentarily. Generally speaking it's about using the full gain space by a piece of sound (music, etc.) which isn't clipping. Peace shows this as clipping as there is no other way to show actual clipping. For this some algorithm and access to the audio stream is needed for proper analysis. I'm guessing some FFT is needed including some clever algorithm. Peace can't do this as it doesn't...

I often see less headroom when adding filters like 70hz - 8db Q=10, or 45hz -7db Q=6.... Not much but around -1db less headroom sometimes, it depends on the audio. it almost every time lowers the headroom by 2-3 db... Strange this isnt happening with APO EQ? If it's about a single sharp high pass then the headroom reduction is about the bump. If it's a Linkwitz-Riley or Butterworth filter then it's strange as these don't have bumps. In both cases the biquad calculations of BEQ Designer and Equalizer APO should be the same. In a sense they are straightforward. Have said that, one can make a tiny mistake with great consequence. But I know Equalizer APO is solid...

Indeed, the best thing to do is too lower the pre amp. And for normal purposes you can watch the peak value meter (below the EQ sliders). If it goes into the red too much than there is clipping and you might notice audio distortion. But during video watching (in full screen) this peak value meter is (obviously) not on screen so we can't know if the audio is clipping at any moment. Unfortunately currently there isn't a way to have a blinking clipping LED on screen during watching. Neither there's...

Are those values taken from GraphicEQ? miniDSP supports FIR filters so, you have the coefficients there already. You need some math to convert the dB to linear https://www.redcrab-software.com/en/Calculator/Electrics/Decibel-Factor and then find coefficient locations https://docs.minidsp.com/product-manuals/2x4-hd/dsp-reference/fir-filtering.html#fir-filtering-overview in manual input on miniDSP control software. Alternatively, EqualizeAPO package's Benchmark utility saves your active EQ to an impulse...

Hello, I want to convert my equalizer from Equalizer APO to a biquads file to move the equalizer from Equalizer APO to my miniDSP. I'd like to convert this (-20 db at 10hz, etc.): 10 -20 15 -8 20 0 to a biquads file. Is there some plugin or tool to do this?

DolbyAPO swc (as shown on your screenshot) isn't Equalizer APO. It has nothing to do with it. A quick search on the internet points to Lenovo although it can be Windows 11 itself. I don't have this APO installed on my Windows 11 laptop.

I've recently tried APO then uninstalled it after using it for a bit and now my sound has completely gone to shit since, I have tried every solution, Resetting Win11, uninstalling it from device manager, and all, But it seems like there's no possible solution to this shit whatsoever. I use this laptop mainly for music production and this has completely hindered me from it. I cannot work with my sound being like it has noticeable reverb/echo and distortion in it. Does this mean I have to buy a new...

Hi again Peter, thanks for your reply! I see that I'm using 1.2.1, no idea why I haven't managed to get myself the latest version. So I'll uninstall the current version, then switch of anything that has to do with voicemeter and then install 1.4.2. Lets see whether that does something. Will circle back in a bit.

ok so from what I can comprehend of your reply, regarding the reg editor method first I don't remember if I uninstalled the APO software via uninstaller or thru windows setting, 2nd I don't think I have the .DLL file no more as I have done an uninstallation of it following up with a clean windows reset, so you got that covered. I don't see DisableProtectedAudioDG in my reg editor and I've followed the file location. you mention the solution that works the most is "by installing a software by the...

Basically, I wanted an EQ only for my mic, and APO was the first I came across to, on the app I only selected my mic device for it to take effect on, and it did work but my problem is that it now also has affected my OS sound quality, and I've tried deselecting every device except for my mic until I decided to just uninstall it because I care a lot about the sound quality of my OS and I don't want to potentially mess it up, and lo and behold it unfortunately did messed up my OS sound quality in the...

Your thought process is good. First wanting Equalizer APO on your mic, selecting it (btw. It should be done by introducing a device selection command) and then uninstalling Equalizer APO and trying the basic ways to restore. Basically what Equalizer APO's Device Selector (or the former Configurator) does is some clever changes in the Windows registry on the audio devices you want Equalizer APO on. After that the audio stream of a device is rerouted through Equalizer APO's APO (its audio manipulation...

Good to know that you were able to figure out which HDMI connection works. Btw. Equalizer APO isn't my software. As developer of the Peace equalizer I support Equalizer APO. Feel free to ask me anything about it.

Thank you very much for your detailed reply. I updated my config file as you said. It seems in fact the HDMI 2 of my receiver Yamaha HTR-4067 isn't compatible. HDMI 3 works right now. I hope it will be OK forever. Congratulations for your software, it gives me a good solution to use good receiver and speakers with my PC. Cheers.

It seems an issue that has been noted on this forum. Unfortunately I don't know the cause. I'm not sure if it was resolved by the developers of Equalizer APO and Voicemeeter. I thought it was. Which version of Equalizer APO are you using? Accoring to the release notes on this files page the developer of Equalizer APO fixed some stuttering in version 1.3. In 1.2.1 he added Voicemeeter Potato support. And in the latest 1.4.2 he fixed the showing of the Voicemeeter output devices in the Device Selector....

When using exclusive mode I guess it's Windows WASAPI Exclusive which simply means that Foobar 2K has exclusive access to an audio device. The sound quality on WASAPI is the same for exclusive mode and shared mode. But for exclusive mode Windows doesn't allow or hasn't implemented the Audio Procesing Object architecture (read sound effects) so no APO's like Equalizer APO are possible in this mode. If Foobar 2K improves the sound quality in this exclusive mode then it's an entirely Foobar 2K thing...

Well, I'm having a bit of luck using Voicemeter banana. I've now put my system output to voicemeter input, and my output on my headphones. And in Equalizer apo I have all devices and at the top also my headphones. This now seems to do the trick. At least most of it. (it's not as smooth or precise as before, but it works) With one exception. The sound sometimes just completely ramps up to maximum. Most of the time this stops after a while, or I have to put my volume off first. So somewhere there seems...

I'm still unsure as to how to find the entries with the programs. I tried finding them by name on processmonitor and found no entry. And also tried to use the RegScanner to see if any fabfilter things would show up but idk what to do with each one of those. I also tried deleting the folders that matched on \HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\ and restarted, but with no luck. {53C412DA-8EE8-11E1-A8A2-7C01BBE59B18} {59445067-049F-4805-985F-F95058CAA137} {08547EC7-07E2-4C59-8A5C-43EC9F1E8D9E}...

A huge thank you! Your keys were exactly the ones that appeared in my case. It seems they are the same for a specific product? I personally have fully activated versions of: Pro-Q 4 (Equalizer) Pro-DS (De-Esser) And I had trial versions (already uninstalled) of these plugins: Saturn 2 (Saturation) Pro-C 2 (Compressor) After deleting those keys, I was able to use them again in Equalizer APO. One piece of software that turned out to be extremely useful for this task is RegScanner from NirSoft. Simply...

In disregard I figured it out. i have to select windows primary sound device in order for it to playthrough equalizer APO. That's kind of unfortunate, because it would be nice to have foobar select my sound card in exclusive mode for better sound quality, while still having it play through equalizer APO. Is there no way to set it up this way?

Thank you, sir. I forgot to ask... How do you setup Equalizer APO so that whatever effects are active, can be heard while using another software player like foobar? Right now I have the Equalizer APO configurator running and an effect active but I'm not hearing any changes.

I'm not sure what you mean by IRS files. If you're talking about impulse response files the convolution command is the one that reads those so that's entirely possible. In your case I guess you want a reverb so the convolution command is the way to go. Of course the sample rate must match up with the source. Btw. The 'GraphicEQ' command of Equalizer APO is basically EQ-ing by convolution so it makes internally an EQ impulse response file.

Basically there isn't a difference but as Equalizer APO is a system-wide audio manipulation engine you only need it when wanting audio manipulation for all Windows audio devices. Is this a byproduct of Foobar or a byproduct of software dsp effects in general? Generally speaking it should be the dsp effect (how it's implemented, algorithm, latency, etc.). In case of Foobar 2K it could also be an internal Foobar 2K limit, a latency issue (as in trying to leave it as low as possible) or how it's implemented....

Hi guys good to be here :) I was just wondering. For those of you who are familiar with or have used Foobar2K to listen to music, you'll know it has its own set of DSP plugins including EQ and reverb effects. So I was just wondering, is there any difference or improvement in sound quality when applying effects like reverb using Equalizer APO over Foobar2K, in Windows 10/11? I've been a foobar user for so long and I love using reverb to add a bit of ambience to some of the music I listen to, but it...

Although this may not have to do with your issue at least you need to introduce a device selection command before your channel rerouting. Also, I see the copy command may be false. So: Device: your device here Copy: RL=L RR=R The L=0 and R=0 could mean that these channels are muted before they are copied to the rear channels. After correcting your config.txt it may be that you're still experiencing the issue. If it's about the NVidia HDMI every update may remove Equalizer APO so at least that needs...
