Hello, I get always this error when I try to delete a document.

 

I delete it using Fidab-delete.

Hi,

I have uploaded a new release of Fidab, R4B. Read the CHANGELOG to find 
out what has happened since R3C.

Observe that the database must be updated when using this release.

It would be interesting to know if anybody is actually using Fidab.

Hi,

this is a bug which affects PostgreSQL users. It is easy to fix, you 
need to replace '\' with '\\' before it is sent to the database. (If 
only I had been wise and used prepared statements.) There is a function 
where this translation should be implemented, take a look at 
PostgreSQL.stringEncoding(). If the translation is properly done in this 
function, then there is a missing call to doubleQuote(viewer) in 
Server.addFiletype() and .setFileTypeViewer(). If it is not clear, ask 
again.

Maybe I should publish a new release where this and other things has 
been fixed.

Hallo,

I'm new to fidab, but I've got it up and running with a linux-server
(postgre) and Win2k-Clients. There is only one Problem left: If I set a
file-type, e.g. "*.doc" to "C:\Programme\Microsoft
Office\Office\winword.exe" all work's fine for just one try. After reopening
"Administrate file types" the Viewer-Path is set to "C:ProgrammeMicrosoft
OfficeOfficewinword.exe". If I use pgAdmin and set the path manualy, the
prob is gone. But I think this is a little to tricky for my users.

the documentation is in FrameMaker format. Is that useful to you?

We have made some minor modifications to the software and manuals that 
is not yet released to SF. If I find the time, I will upload the files

I am doing a research project on "Fun and Software Development" in which I kindly invite you to participate.

With the FASD project (Fun and Software Development) we want to define the motivational significance of fun when software developers decide to engage in Open Source projects. Interesting concept. That is a new idea for me.

There is no direct work going on with Fidab right now, but we are using 
it daily in our own business. We also keep track of future improvements 
we want to make.

We are not actively trying to sell Fidab or going after any particular 
market. We published the software to see if we could create a userbase 
that could share the cost of improvements and maintenance.

expect at a minimum that when performing a new release that it would default
to the previous file, and perhaps even complain if the file name changes.
Although this package may be going after a different discipline than I am
used to.

Is there current development activity on Fidab?  Is there interest in going
after the CAD market?

Which language are you translating to? Right now, it is possible to use 
english and swedish.

It is possible to add more than one file to a revision and have them 
stored in the same directory. If more advanced directory structures are 
to be preserved, you must wrap it up in a .zip archive first.

You should use ';' as the classpath separator, not ':' which is used on 
Unix-like operating systems.

Try:

java -DADMIN=TRUE -classpath 
lib/oracle8i.zip;lib/activation.jar;lib/mail.jar;lib/postgresql.jar;fidab.jar;filearchive.jar;physicalarchive.jar 
se.fyrplus.fidab.client.Fidab

and see what happens. (You can leave the oracle8i.jar out, since you are 
using postgresql.)

Use the native prompt.

Can you send the complete stack trace for this one? I suspect it is the 
class se.fyrplus.fidab.server.PostgreSQL that is missing in Fidab.jar, 
but I am not sure. Can you check this?

This means that the file postgresql.jar is missing, I guess.

I am running Win2kPro, a newly upgraded version of cygwin, Sun's java 
1.4.2, PostgreSQL default install from cygwin.  My objective is to set up 
a simple example/test station all on my local machine.

The PostgreSQL database creation seemed to go alright.  There were a lot 
of Notices, but no errors.

I have many questions, but let me start with these:

I am not clear wether I should be running Fidab from a cygwin prompt or a 
native prompt.  In all of these tests I have begun in the fidab_R3C base 
directory.

When I try to start Fidab with the recommended classpath it fails with a 
message 'Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: 
se/fyrplus/fidab/client/Fidab'

When I start with a classpath of only fidab.jar, the program seems to 
start, but immediately brings up a dialog box with the 
message:"se.fyrplus.fidab.server.ServerException: Database creation 
failed. org.postgresql.Driver"
A second dialog box comes up after OKing the previous, it says:"Get 
Bookmarks failed  Error message: Database creation failed. 
org.postgresql.Driver"

In the terminal window that I started the "java -DADMIN..." it gives a 
message: "Server exception when loading user preferences."  There are 
many other lines, but they do no mean much to me.

I have tried many different names in the DATABASE_URL, including 
127.0.0.1, localhost, and the response to cygwin's 'hostname' command.  
Nothing changes.

The file archive is using directories on the server to store files. 
These directories must be mounted uniformly on the clients, or they will 
not be able to read and write files to the archive.

First, you need to create document access classes in the Admin menu. 
Each class is associated with a letter, e.g. A and B.

Then, go to the menu Admin->File Archive->Archive Directories...
If the server share is mounted as N:\ on the clients, edit the 
directories associated with the access classes to 'N:\A\' and 'N:\B\' 
respectively.

assign the relevant read and write rights to your users.

It should now be possible to appen files when a new Revision is created, 
and the files will be copied to the file archive.

The quantity can not be specified in the tool. I know it is available 
in other tools more focused on manufacturing. Fidab is focused on 
construction.

What you will have to do is to write a document for each product, in 
which the quantity of subproducts to use when manufacturing is 
specified.

I will get back to you about the file archive, but I can tell you it 
involves the configuration of 'access class' and 'file archive', as 
files belonging to different document access classes is stored in 
different file directories. To be able to add files, you will then have 
to create a document revision.

1. Create two products.
2. Click on the first product.
3. Select Fidab->Link subproducts...
4. Click on the second product.
5. Click Ok.

That sounds like a bug. I can't reproduce what you are seeing, as I 
have the 'Save' button here. You will have to ask a local java guru to 
debug it for you on your computer. Patches are gladly accepted.

Are you using release R3C of Fidab, the latest?

There is no manual in english.

first, you must start fidab with the ADMIN flag set.

Then select Admin->Edit Product Classes... in the menu bar.
Click on New button.
Type Tree letters in the first textbox.
Click on Save button.

Dear Marcus

     i was able to overcome the error by using OracleThinDrivers.jar file instead of oracle8i.zip .now if i try to create new product ,i do not get anyting in my class & series dropdown box so when i try to create new product i recieved the following error .
