The problem is still there, and it's annoying: The title of the popup is "KeePass", and the (rather small) window is hidden behind the explorer window that started KeePass. Furthermore that popup window is not listed in the Windows taskbar, so the user has no clue that a non-visible window is waiting for input. Is there a way to enable some kind of logging of the Auto-Type sequence saying "did this" / "couldn't do this and here's why"??

I have get portable keepass v2.59 = stalled. Install mono from its own repository v6.12 = stalled. Kubuntu 25.04 live cd with installed mono 6.12 and keepass v2.57 = stalled. ... with portable keepass 2.59 = stalled. Sync with file in filesystem = ok. Sync with file over ftp (url) = stalled. According to logs of ftp server, file downloaded and uploaded successfully. But application breaks somewhere after "Ready".

I've just tested this with KeePass 2.59 on an up-to-date Kubuntu 25.04 system and cannot reproduce the issue. It probably was a bug in KeePass, Mono or the system that has been fixed already. Best regards, Dominik

You can't use the plug-in IOProtocolExt in Linux because it uses WimSCP, which is a Windows only program. Remove the plug-in and any other plug-ins and test again. cheers, Paul

KP2A is here. That message suggests the original file has been removed after KP2A opened it. How do you get the database file onto your phone? I open the database direct from a cloud site and let KP2A cache it for me. cheers, Paul

Now you need to work out why the group is not searchable. By default, the Recycle Bin is not searchable and all others are. If you right click on a group and edit it, the Properties tab has a setting to disallow searches. cheers, Paul

Not with global auto-type. KeePass stays at arms length to browsers and other applications for simplicity and better security. It would be necessary to integrate with the browser to implement the level of automation you would like. There are 3rd-party plugins and apps that auto-fill and do integrate with browsers. Hello Paul, It's a pity that offline caching is not provided. Before I stored the database on an FTP server, I used Microsoft OneDrive with the KeeAnywhere plugin. This supported backups and offline caching. The big advantage of offline caching is that the database can also be opened when the cloud server is down. Thanks for the XML script. I have my auto-type configured so that when I've landed on a website all I have to do is press the hot-key and the cursor is automatically taken to the password field and everything then gets filled in. Is there a way to have this happen without having to press the hot-key so that auto-type executes automatically upon landing on the website? I have one other suggestion, if you wanted to try it. I've attached a debug build of KeePass which will pop up a message box whenever the database modified flag is set true. If you run that, and then copy the message (just hit Ctrl+C when it appears) then that will tell us exactly what is setting the flag. Might still not tell us why, but at least what would be a start. Needless to say, don't use this debug build for anything other than obtaining this specific info, and not with any database that...

The _etm_template_uuid field is explicitly excluded from the property list. It is from the KPEntryTemplates plugin - you should use KPEntryTemplates to change it, it is not intended to be directly edited.

KeePass data is contained in a single file called a database. Copy that file to anywhere you need to use it. You can even amial it to yourself by attaching the file to a draft email and opening the draft on another device. I assume that data is stored in the CustomData node of the entry. This data is not shown by the KPEEV plug-in. If you view the Properties tab when you edit an entry you should see the data there, but it is not editable. You would need to export the entry as XML, edit and import the change. cheers, Paul

You are not alone, all FTP servers seem to do it differently. KeePass does not cache files. Maybe because it can't guarantee to be able to delete the cached copy. You can cache the file manually and sync the file rather than save - I do this to retain a copy in the cloud. I use a trigger (2 actually, one to add a button to the toolbar) to do the work. See below (copy the XML and paste it into the Triggers window via the Tools button). The parameters are stored in the database instead of in the trigger....

Hi Paul, I tried what you suggested and indeed, the ctrl+alt+y shortcut is now set. However, with keepass running, I then went to the windows notepad, and hit ctrl+alt+y. No go, nothing got pasted. I initially thought the key definition was not sticking but it is sticking now so what could I try next?

Hello, I have created an FTP user for my web space, which I use exclusively for the Keepass database. To be able to use FTPS, I have installed the IOProtocolExt plugin. When I access the FTP server with FileZilla, only explicit FTPS works. With implicit FTPS, the connection fails. In the Keepass FTPS settings, implicit and explicit FTPS are set to ‘automatic’ by default. In this case, the connection fails. If I set ‘implicit’ to ‘off’ and “explicit” to ‘on’, it works. Interesting, 1entry is in an old kdbx format (3.1) , which hasn't been used since before KeePass 2.35. Still compatible, of course, but it's at least possible that makes a difference. Other notable differences, 1a contains a <CustomData> element with a _LAST_MODIFIED and a KPXC_RANDOM_SLUG value in it, these are both added by KeePassXC. Could the difference be related to whether the file is used in KeePassXC too? I couldn't reproduce the modified behaviour with either file, though.

I can't reproduce this on V2.59. Pressing Ctrl Alt Y puts that value in the Global auto-type box. Pressing Tab moves to the next field without changing the value. Can you try pressing the keys, then clicking OK without using Tab? cheers, Paul

Hi all, When I define a global hotkey for autotype like ctrl+alt+y, the definition does not stick. The hotkey box goes to none. I can see the key defined for a few seconds and then when I tab back to the field, the definition is gone. I am blind and am consequently using a screen reader namely non-visual desktop access from https://nvaccess.org. I am not sure if that has anything to do with this problem. "Automatically generated" is the default for new entries. You can modify that profile to suit. Once you have an entry open in edit mode, click the key and cog icon next to the password to see a quick pick list of password profiles. cheers, Paul

Global Auto-Type looks at the title of the app you have running and attempts to match it to the title of a KeePass entry. If you get a match, Auto-Type happens. e.g. to login here (sourceforge) you need an entry in KeePass called "Sourceforge". The case doesn't matter. See the Help for more details. cheers, Paul

But to call that profile up I have to use the Tools->Generate Password menu option which pops up another window. I cannot use Ctrl-I in the main screen without exiting that profile selecting screen. The only differences between those databases are that 1a has several deleted objects and 1 has only two, and that 1 has entries and 1a does not. And, of course, the filename. I guess that's the first easy test, try swapping the filenames and see if that reverses the behaviour! You say that 1.kdbx has no entries or groups, but that's not what I'm seeing. 1 does have entries and groups, and 1a does not. 1a has groups but no entries.

Here are 2 DBs with no entries. Password = 1 1.kdbx has no entries or groups and opens with modified status. 1a.kdbx has the default groups but no entries and opens un-modified. The issue only arises if the database is the first opened after running KeePass. If you open any DB first and then a bad one, no problem. cheers, Paul

I had occasion to want to hold down an Alt, press 3 letters, and then release. %X%Y%Z did not work for me in this case. I then realized I could instead use use either the left-alt key code (164) or right (165). Example: holds down the left Alt key, presses three letters, and then releases the left Alt. In the case of the MSI, the installation/uninstallation halts when KeePass is running (message "The following applications are using files which the installer must update. ...", with commands for trying again, continuing or exiting). So, I'm wondering how you managed to install 2.59.31 while 2.59.30 is running; I cannot reproduce that. Wow, that's weird. So you now have an empty database that has the problem - if you create a fresh new empty database as similar as possible to the problematic empty one, would that also have the problem? If not, you could post the two empty databases and I can compare them, that might give clues.

I've tried everything I can think of and can't work out what is wrong. I even managed to turn a problem free database into one that always opens modified - by deleting every entry, it's now an empty database. The XML of this database is no different from the XML of the problem free version, except it has no data apart from the database info. cheers, Paul

Tested the 2 msi installers and a Taskbar icon continues to work across the upgrade. What I did notice was 2 copies of KeePass running after the upgrade to 31. I forgot to close 30 after running it. Does the installer check for an existing running app? cheers, Paul

Your AT contains a command that has to be executed. KeePass has no control over / knowledge of that command so it must wait until it is finished before doing anything else. cheers, Paul

Hi, I use trigger to automatically import the database of my daughter into my database everytime I open my database. Even if my daughter's database didn't changed, and thus no new data were imported into my database, keypass says that I have to save the database. Why? I registered for the sole purpose of leaving this comment. Removing the duplicate function from quick access is a mistake and there is no excuse for it. I am not interested in a solution via plugins. I refuse to use the latest versions and will disable updates until this mistake is fixed.

It is possible you managed to overwrite the KeePass config file during your re-installation attempts. If you have a recent image backup of the machine you can retrieve the old config file from it. The bottom line is, you don't remember the composition of your master key and until you do you will not be able to open your database. cheers, Paul

You don't have any sub-nodes, which isn't right. Are you sure you are looking at the correct config file - there can be several. Check the timestamp, it should be today. cheers, Paul
