Hi,
The better Japanese locale is "EUC-JP". So please
change this line in /usr/share/langconf/lists/locale-list
as:

it_CH.UTF-8 utf8 latarcyrheb-sun16 Italian (Switzerland)
ja_JP.EUC-JP EUC-JP lat0-sun16 Japanese - ???
