Hi Martin, here is something that might be of interest to you: https://ko-fi.com/wmlive/goal?g=1 Thanks for your interest and support! Regards
First a last bookworm based version will still be released sometime in autumn after summer is over. There really is no hurry switching to trixie before at least the first point release has become available. Considering all the changes in trixie, probably lots of time intensive (re)building and (re)testing will be required. Free time is scarce and the most important ingredient. If ever a trixie based variant becomes reality, don't expect any shiny new stuff. It will largely stay the same as it is...
How far are we to version 13.0 and what will be the new stuff ?
Hi Martin, wmlive almost exclusively relies on vanilla Debian packages and the related official Debian Installer infrastructure. Please open a wish list bug for the Linux kernel at https://packages.debian.org/linux for any feature requests. Regards
Hello I have request for you, could you add these two packages into release? Its helping with install on my and some other PCs https://github.com/andersfugmann/T2-Debian-Kernel#installation
OK, I understood. May I advice users with lack of Debian network knowledge to reinstall WMLive 12.8 from scratch to get a valid network configuration because they will not find any easy interface to modify an existing one in the default tools provided by WMLive. Regards
Dear Accnet Dev, please acquaint yourself with relevant networking documentation and try to figure out a solution yourself for your specific configuration. Due to the lack of financial support for my time investment, unpaid time is reserved for working on wmlive development itself. Regards
Hi, I have exported a WMLive 12.8 virtualbox VM and imported on another lan. I have to change the lan settings to meet new lan configuration. How do you advice me to proceed? Not found netplan config as usual in Bookworm, found NetworkManager config in /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections but would like to know what you suggest/advice both graphical if it is possible as WMLive is provided and in command line (what do I have to modify to get a perfect new lan config). Cheers
Hello Gustavius, sorry, i can't afford investing unpaid time in installation hand holding for newbie users. Also, given the lack of provided technical details, there is no way to provide any initial support. To begin with, you'd need to detail the exact HP laptop model and the ISO variant you tried to install it with. If it is a very recent/new HP laptop, maybe it's already too new for the current wmlive? May i suggest to try another more recent beginner friendly Linux distro instead?

Thanks a lot :) While it does work from the GWorkspace's menu it doesn't work for me from the command line.

Apparently, there exists a wmtrash dockapp for WindowMaker, but it is not included with wmlive and won't be due to its rather limited usefulness. Luckily, there is a dockable trash application integrated with the GWorkspace.app file manager. It can be easily invoked from within GWorkspace's menu "Tools > Show Recycler", or opened directly as /usr/bin/Recycler.

Guys I am wondering if there is/was any implementation of NeXTStep trash app in windowmaker? I am sure this has been discussed before.
Glad it now works for you!

Update: I just realized I was running i386 dvd on amd64 PC unintentionally. i386 comes up as latest in sorceforge, maybe this needs to be changed to amd64. Sorry for the noise. I just burned and booted amd64 into live and it came up ok. Thanks for prompt responses guys and sorry for the noise.
So you actually burned a DVD from the ISO? In order to exclude a faulty DVD, please rather create a bootable USB pen drive as explained in the INSTALL.txt and then use it booting into the live session again. Thanks

Are you able to switch to a virtual console pressing for example Ctr-Alt-F5 and then login? If yes, please switch to root using the command 'sudo su -' and provide a compressed/zipped copy of the /var/log/installer folder, the /var/log/syslog and the /var/log/Xorg.0.log files. Thanks
Update: I tried clean install of 12.8 over 0.96 and everything went well until the first power on and boot. It went ok but then a black screen showed up which is similar symptom I saw with the live boot. So I messed up my good 0.96 install...you have definitely broken something related to display drivers, because like I said this works fine in 0.96. I saw release notes for build 12.8 and it looks like this was a major upgrade, perhaps too big to go all into a single build. Personally I don't think...
hi, I appreciate fast response. You didn't state how long delay we are talking about. I dont think its the matter of display initialization delay, since I left the machine for 10mins maybe more. I noticed the cd gets span up every 2-3mins, but the screen remains the same. I never heard of display initialization taking that long on any distribution. Like I said this works fine with build 0.96 and that machine is quite fast. Its a dell Latitude 7480. I haven't tried to install 12.8 only tried live...
I'm now starting to suspect something completely different: The very first login into a new account usually takes a while due to desktop settings being initialized. On a very slow machine this might take an irritatingly long time, as it just shows a blank (=black) screen until it finishes and the desktop appears. Once completed, subsequent future logins should happen almost instantly. Could this be the case for you?
Hi Rade, with the scarce information provided there is not much to look into. As a bare minimum, please specify in more technical detail what are the exact models of the two "dell laptops" inolved. BIOS or UEFI? What CPU generation are they? What kind of graphics chip? When booting the machine, do you see any initial console messages before switching to graphics mode? Any difference when removing the vga=788 boot parameter? Without sufficient technical details there really is not much that can be...

hi guys, I tried running live dvd wmlive 12.8 image on two dell laptops and they both boot into a black screen. Previous build 0.96 worked just fine(both live and install) on same laptops and everything worked, sound, networking etc. Could you please look into this.

Not sure what 'pacman' refers to? But whatever you intend to do, just do it. The sources for wmlive are readily available for any user's own endeavours.
im aware that pacman doesnt have most of the config in here and i wish someone made a package group for WMaker and GNUStep type of stuff? suppose i can help?
To be honest, new Linux users would probably be better served with something like MXLinux or maybe even Ubuntu. With wmlive you will have a much steeper learning curve as there is no support documentation nor any wiki or mailing list whatsoever. Both MXLinux and Ubuntu are very much better in this regard.
OK thanks.
For users new to Linux, it makes it a lot easier.
OK thanks.
OK thanks
Yes, either way should work as expected.
I still can't figure out how to restart the computer. When clicking on Reboot, Session Menu > Shutdown > Reboot, Window Maker Live returns to the WM desktop, but I would like to restart the computer,. How do I do it correctly? Thanks!

Thanks for the answer. I will make the changes you indicated. Greetings !
