This patch corrects some trivial compiler warnings and enables
build to complete on Mac OS/X.. Added -s option to ar in Makefile
to index the archive ala ranlib and fixed a confused overloaded
+= operator in test program Validate.cpp

And this time I've attached the file... :-/
