  • Excellent!
  • A good software, I like to use it. Because I don't know how to contact the author, I have to constantly update my findings and ideas in the comments here. I hope to have a new feature, but I am unable to post on GitHub. Therefore, I am writing here in the hope that the author can see: I hope to have a button that allows the background color of the node to be selected to be the same or different from the color of the border, so that you can create a colored node that looks borderless.Of course, it is best to also can set the background color opposite to the color of the border. (The expression I wrote last time was incorrect, but I have corrected it this time) Please forgive my poor English. I have translated the user manual into a bilingual version of Chinese and English, but how can I publish it? I am unable to access the GitHub website. I have found an issue where if the color of tags is not set in the styling, the tags of nodes can freely set various font colors and background colors. But once the color of a tag is set in the editing style, all tags will only have one color in the style and cannot be freely changed anymore. Even if the tag color in the editing style is changed back to the initial color, it cannot be freely changed anymore, as if changing the tag color in the style is locked to the style. Therefore, the best choice is not to modify the tag properties in the editing style.
  • Freeplane Review: An Objective Perspective Freeplane is a powerful, open-source mind mapping application that caters to a wide range of users, from casual note-takers to serious project planners. Its frequent updates demonstrate a commitment to ongoing development and improvement, which is commendable. This review aims to provide an objective assessment of Freeplane's strengths and weaknesses. Strengths: Feature Rich: Freeplane boasts an impressive array of features, including support for multiple map formats, rich text editing within nodes, image integration, hyperlinks, and various styling options. Advanced features like scripting and add-ons further extend its functionality, allowing for customization and automation. Open Source and Free: Being open-source, Freeplane is completely free to use, distribute, and modify. This makes it an attractive option for budget-conscious users and those who value community-driven development. Cross-Platform Compatibility: Freeplane runs on Windows, macOS, and Linux, ensuring accessibility for users across different operating systems. This cross-platform nature is a significant advantage. Active Community: A dedicated community supports Freeplane, providing resources, tutorials, and assistance to users. This active community contributes to the software's continuous improvement and offers valuable support to newcomers. Regular Updates: The frequent updates demonstrate a commitment to bug fixes, performance improvements, and the addition of new features. This constant evolution ensures that Freeplane remains relevant and competitive. Intuitive Interface (for experienced users): While there's a learning curve, once mastered, Freeplane's interface becomes quite efficient. The use of keyboard shortcuts and context menus allows for rapid map creation and manipulation. Weaknesses: Steep Learning Curve: Freeplane's extensive feature set can be overwhelming for new users. The interface, while powerful, isn't always immediately intuitive, and the documentation could be more user-friendly for beginners. Interface Aesthetics: While functional, Freeplane's interface could benefit from a more modern and visually appealing design. Some users may find it dated compared to other mind mapping tools. Performance with Large Maps: While generally responsive, Freeplane can sometimes experience performance issues when dealing with very large and complex mind maps. Limited Collaboration Features: While some workarounds exist, Freeplane lacks robust real-time collaboration features, which are becoming increasingly important for team-based projects. Documentation Could Be Improved: While the community provides support, the official documentation could be more comprehensive and easier to navigate, particularly for new users.

  • This is one of the most amazing pieces of software (regardless of being open source which is great too). Very few other apps exist that are as easy to use, as flexible, as well maintained, as powerful and if used for things like task management and brainstorming.....transformative and even life changing. If I had to go to a desert island and could take only one app, Freeplane would be that app.

  • I have recently switched from FreeMind to FreePlane and so far I have found all my FreeMind mind maps load and work just in in FreePlane. I'm exploring the new (to me) features of FreePlane and am quite impressed at what a nice job the FreePlane developers have done. What excellent MindMapping software!
