Apache Tomcat Mailing Lists
Before you can send a message to one of the Apache Tomcat® lists, you must subscribe to that list. If you try to send a message to a list from an e-mail address that is not subscribed to the list, it will be rejected.
All messages to the Tomcat lists are filtered for spam. To avoid your valid message being marked as spam:
- send your message in plain text, not HTML;
- include a subject.
The following lists are available:
- tomcat-users
- User support and discussion
- taglibs-user
- User support and discussion for Apache Taglibs
- tomcat-announce
- Low volume announcements including all releases and security vulnerabilities
- tomcat-dev
- Development mailing list, including commit messages
Users should consider subscribing to the User Support and the Announcements mailing lists. The Developer list is for people interested in helping with the development and debugging of the server.
Formatted archives are available in several places including the Apache Mail Archives, and MARC. The raw mbox files are also available.
tomcat-users
The list listed here is the only place that configuration and how-to questions belong, ever. Every day, users become frustrated, not with Apache Tomcat, but how nobody will help them understand how to get started. 95% of the time, it's not for lack of helpers, but for lack of effort and well stated questions.
Before you go further, please read Eric S. Raymond and Rick Moen's explanation of "How To Ask Questions The Smart Way". If you follow their advice, you will discover that these forums have dozens of helpers ready to provide you with guidance on using Apache Tomcat! Note: Do not send your Apache Tomcat questions to Eric or Rick themselves!
Important:
- You must be subscribed to the mailing list before you post a question. If you do not subscribe first, your post will be automatically rejected.
- When asking questions on the list, please state your exact Tomcat version (which is three numbers, 11.0.zz, 10.1.yy or 9.0.xx), your operating system, and essential bits of your configuration.
- Note, that Tomcat Documentation is provided on this site and is searchable (see links and search box at the left). Add "Tomcat 11.0", "Tomcat 10.1", or "Tomcat 9.0" to your query to refine your results. The tomcat-users mailing list archives (links are below) are also searchable.
- The FAQ and How To pages are available at the Tomcat Wiki.
- Usage of these mailing lists is subject to the Public Forum Archive Policy.
- To post a question, start a new thread by sending your mail to the "Posting questions" address below. Do not reply to an existing e-mail.
- When replying, please write your text below the quoted one.
Top-posting

(Hint: when replying in GMail, click on "..." button to show the text of original e-mail. Other mail clients have similar features.) - Please format your messages as plain text, not HTML. Do not send attachments, as they are likely to be removed and ignored by the mailing list server.

tomcat-dev
The [email protected]
mailing list
is used for discussions about the actual development of the server. It is not
the place to ask about problems writing JSPs, servlets or web applications.
Configuration and support questions should be addressed to the user mailing list. This development list is only for discussion of changes to the Apache Tomcat source code and related issues. Other questions will be ignored.

taglibs-user
The [email protected]
mailing list is for users of the custom tag libraries found in
Apache Taglibs. It is also
a good forum for asking questions about how custom tag libraries operate,
and how they can be used.
