Reconfiguring my Web site

I was originally setting this site up for a Macintosh/iOS Application that I was working on. It became obvious that my life was too busy, and was not going to allow me to finish such a project at this time, so I've decided that rather than pay for a page I may never need for a program that I may never write, that I would use this page for my personal blog.

I've had a lot of interesting things happen in my life, and I have an interesting perspective on a lot of subjects, and this is where I will give them life.

I hope to post at least once a week, but we'll see how that goes.

Stay tuned!

Harry Faces

Okay, it's been nine months since I posted that I was going to try to post weekly. I failed that goal, obviously, but now I am going to take a more active interest in keeping this current and relevant and interesting. I will be updating my "About Me" page, so you'll know me, and understand my point of view for these posts.

One of the things that helped re-spark my interest in this blog, is my love of technology. Also, I buy a lot of stuff, and I have opinions about what I use. I felt that this information could guide other people who might have an interest in some of the things that I have used, or still use.

IF, at some point way on down the line, some company gives me a sample, and asks me to review it, I will certainly try it, and I will give an honest opinion of it. BUT I will start off any such review by telling you that is was a sample and by whom it was provided.

With that in mind, I would talk about shaving.

Given my age, I've obviously been shaving for a very long time (minus the short perod of time that I had a beard (to my mother's chagrin). The first razor that I used was electric. I never especially liked it, but it did the job. After awhile, my father bought me a double edge, single blade razor to try. It was the kind that you twisted the bottom of the handle to have the top of the razor open, allowing you to easily replace the blade. My father always dropped his in the slot in the back of the medicine cabinet. "Where do they go?" I asked. "There's a box mounted to the back that catches them," he said. "What happens when it gets full?" I asked. About this time my dad would find something for me to do, just so I would stop bothering him.

So I used this razor for a long time. It gave a good shave, but I did tend to nick myself fairly regularaly. Then they came out with the double-edge razor. I received a coupon to get one free. It seemed to do an okay job, but it always seemed to me like the blades were of a lower quality. BUT, I rarely nicked myself. So I kept using them.

As an interesting side note (well, interesting to me, anyway) it was about this time that Saturday Night Live did a spoof of commercials for the double-edge razors by creating a spoof ad for the Triple-Trac Razor. It ends with the tag line of "The Triple-Trac. Because you'll believe anything." It may be my faulty memory, but it seems to me like it was a number of years before anyone did produce the triple edge razor, and I like to believe that this SNL piece may have been part of the reason.

Decades passed. More and more were added until you just could not shave that area immediately under your nose, so they finally had to add one additional blade on the edge just for that reason.

Now, of course, every time that they added a blade, the price went up. $20 for a package was not unusual. I looked at the cost of shaving and balked. At this same time, some "hipster" posting about the luxury of shaving with the old single blade razors. He also used a shaving brush and soap. I checked out the pricing, and I realized that this was the way to go. So I did.

I got really good at shaving with these blades, but it did take longer. I would lather and shave down. Later again and shave up (you never want to drag one of these blades across your skin if there was no soap (basically a lubricant) on there. It was worth it to me to get up five minutes earlier, in order to save some money.

Then, about a year ago I saw something for Harry's on FaceBook. I checked them out, and I really liked the concept. To sumarize, they felt that better blades could be made than the major manufacturers, and that they could be made cheaper. The found out that the best blades were made in Germany, that there were two factories there that were the best, and so they bought one of them.

Now admitedly, I am not saving as much as I was with the single-blade razor, but the blades are excellent, I never nick myself, and I can sleep in that extra five minutes in the morning.

Now, starting with a product review (even with my life's shaving history) is a risky start. I'm sure that some people will write me off and never check the site out again. Understood, but this is a product that I use every day, and I believe in it, and I think others might benefit from my experience.

My next post will NOT ne a review, but I hope that you'll find it interesting.
