He that would make his own liberty secure must guard even his enemy from oppression; for if he violates this duty, he establishes a precedent that will reach to himself.
-- Thomas Paine
If you want to be free, there is but one way; it is to guarantee an equally full measure of liberty to all your neighbors. There is no other.
-- Carl Schurz
It behooves every man who values liberty of conscience for himself, to resist invasions of it in the case of others: or their case may, by change of circumstances, become his own.
-- Thomas Jefferson
The trouble with fighting for human freedom is that one spends most of one's time defending scoundrels. For it is against scoundrels that oppressive laws are first aimed, and oppression must be stopped at the beginning if it is to be stopped at all.
-H.L. Mencken
As the Americans learned so painfully in Earth's final century, free flow of information is the only safeguard against tyranny. The once-chained people whose leaders at last lose their grip on information flow will soon burst with freedom and vitality, but the free nation gradually constricting its grip on public discourse has begun its rapid slide into despotism. Beware of he who would deny you access to information, for in his heart he dreams himself your master.
-- Commissioner Pravin Lal, "U.N. Declaration of Rights", Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri
Freedom of expression is the matrix, the indispensable condition, of nearly every other form of freedom.
-- Benjamin N. Cardozo
When any government, or any church for that matter, undertakes to say to its subjects, "This you may not read, this you must not see, this you are forbidden to know," the end result is tyranny and oppression, no matter how holy the motives. Mighty little force is needed to control a man whose mind has been hoodwinked; contrariwise, no amount of force can control a free man, a man whose mind is free. No, not the rack, not fission bombs, not anything - you can't conquer a free man; the most you can do is kill him.
-- Robert A. Heinlein
Liberty is not a means to a higher political end. It is itself the highest political end.
-- John Dalberg-Acton, 1st Baron Acton
They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.
-- Benjamin Franklin
Liberty is not a cruise ship full of pampered passengers. Liberty is a man-of-war, and we are all crew.
-- Kenneth W. Royce
For so long as but a hundred of us remain alive, we will in no way yield ourselves to the dominion of the English. For it is not for glory, nor riches, nor honour that we fight, but for Freedom, which no good man lays down but with his life.
-- From the Declaration of Arbroath, 1302
Freedom cannot be bestowed - it must be achieved.
-- Elbert Hubbard
If a nation values anything more than freedom, it will lose its freedom; and the irony of it is that if it is comfort or money that it values more, it will lose that too.
-- W. Somerset Maugham
I would rather be exposed to the inconveniences attending too much liberty than to those attending too small a degree of it.
-- Thomas Jefferson
The human race divides politically into those who want people to be controlled and those who have no such desire. The former are idealists acting from highest motives for the greatest good of the greatest number. The latter are surly curmudgeons, suspicious and lacking in altruism. But they are more comfortable neighbors than the other sort.
-- Robert A. Heinlein
No government is ever really in favor of so-called civil rights. It always tries to whittle them down. They are preserved under all governments, insofar as they survive at all, by special classes of fanatics, often highly dubious.

The 2A battle continues (G)

The frame receiver comments are still open
https://www.furaffinity.net/journal/9881623/
The first item is a reminder that the comment section on the ATF's proposal on frames and receivers are still open. This follows ATF2021 R-05, through which the ATF is seeking to redefine what constitutes a frame/receiver and is an attack on the American practice of legally home building firearms. The comments will remain open until August and I urge you to do your part to see that this attempt to bypass congress and attack the 2nd Amendment does not come to pass.
The pistol brace issue returns

As if the first proposal is not bad enough, the Pistol Brace proposal has been revived by the ATF after being cancelled last Christmas. The proposal ATF2021 R-08 appears to be an all out attack on the concept of pistol braces which were invented to assist the physically handicapped with the operation of a large pistol or AR-15/AK pistol. The attack will primarily come in the form of ATF form #4999, this is effectively a list of arbitrary requirements and points that would need to be within limits to distinguish between a braced pistol and a short barrel rifle (SBR). SBR's are a registered item under the National Firearms Act 1934 (NFA 1934) which requires items like SBR's, Suppressors and others to be registered with the ATF and the owner to pay a $200 tax on each item. Not only that but there is a clause that states that ATF agents can arbitrarily decide to label an inspected firearm as an SBR regardless of whether or not it falls within the standards on the form. The NFA tax is nothing short of an unconstitutional poll tax on a constitutionally protected right and the ATF are looking to exploit this to turn law abiding gun owners into felons overnight. I recommend that you look at the YouTube video by Colion Nior, he will explain what's at stake further and also how you can properly format your comment. After that, the comment section link is here and also on Noir's video description. This has a September deadline and I highly recommend that you submit a comment while you can.
South African armed self defence under threat

America isn't the only battleground as far as the right to keep and bear arms is concerned. The South African government is seeking to ban the purpose of self defence as a legitimate reason to own a firearm under their licensing system, with crime on the rise in the cities and farms constantly under threat this would be nothing short of a death sentence for many law abiding South Africans. I have already made an official comment against the proposal and I hope that you will do the same. The deadline is July for comments and so time is of the essence for this.
