PK was wondering that same thing, however, while you are correct, the rodent population outweighs that
of most other mammals. In the eyes of the law, something like this would be applauded, BUT, since
this particular mouse was somewhat established in society (and not just any ol' mouse) it's jusr a slap on the wrist.

Ooohh, so that actually makes things a lot more interesting than I’d expected, and brings up some rather pertinent questions that have been apparent from the beginning. Or at least sheds new light on an old question. So if the local law enforcement would cheer the death of specific species and are apparently enacting a racial purge to eliminate a vast majority of the populous, there is no protection at all for that mouse here beyond the mercy of the cats he lives with. And if he tried to go to anyone else for help, for any reason, it’d be more likely he’d be executed on the spot. Must mean any rodent who has managed any form of job had to be especially skilled at their work, or they’re just a cheap and easily replaced workforce.
Why hasn’t TJ already been killed by now?
Originally I had assumed it was that Alivia had a soft spot for him, he’s presumably fun to tease and would make a more interesting toy than a corpse. But she killed one of his family in front of him and then smiled about the fact afterword. It’s fairly evident she isn’t interested in avoiding a similar event, and would quite happily kill the rest of family and any friend he happens to make, presumably to taunt about it after word “Unless you want to join them” and naturally threaten to kill him the same way.
I had assumed it was at least partially teasing, having fun at his expense to see the reaction without actual intention for harm, but she’s already killed someone close to him at least once before this, and is making this particular threat while actively killing someone else. Pretty obvious she’s not teasing and that if push comes to shove, she’d have no qualms peeling his skin off and feeling him scream that last breath. And if she wanted another mouse to play with it wouldn’t be too hard to find one, either by kidnapping or coercion.
If it isn’t sentimental value or any sense of care toward TJ, then is this just part of pushing for a reaction? Alivia wants to see how far she can go until he breaks, how far until he falls into complete depression and does nothing but weep into a corner? How far until he ends up suicidal, realizing just how legitimately worthless he is in this world and the fact no one would bother protecting him, no one (shown thus far) would mourn his passing? That would seem to go against what I’ve read about her thus far, but is the only way I can explain her actions here within the context of what’s been shown.
She isn’t even slightly apologetic, she’d do this again on a whim, and will openly boast her capacity to murder in front of the person she’s shown to spend the most time with …
Hmm.
I know these are difficult to draw, likewise difficult to plan out. But please note the multi-page comics with a story and character involved are always far more interesting than single page bits of art. I’ll eagerly await whatever you come out with next, and any material that gives you something to think about is worth delving into.
Please keep it up as the motivation strikes, you have fans.

Right, seeing as TJ has no specific benefit or contribution to society meaning he's not a doctor, lawyer, dentist, etc. and is easily replaceable, if he were to leave and go somewhere else like you stated, there would literally be nothing stopping another predator from doing the same thing to him as what happened here. The same would go for any other rodent as well, yes.
Here's where it gets a bit silly, the green haired feline (Lime) from a few of my other comics has saliva that can heal wounds. She used to work at a hospital in the emergency department (ER) because of her special ability. However, the hospital started relying on her more and more, and not just for emergencies so they could get bonuses for getting people in-and-out faster. Less time spent in the hospital = the more room they have to treat more people = more people go this hospital = more revenue. So she eventually quit for being taken advantage of. Now you must be wondering, why is this important? Well, one day, when Lime accidentally/playfully ate TJ, some of her "healing saliva" (she can choose when to use it just as you or I can choose how much pressure to use when throwing a punch) made it down to where TJ was in her stomach, and it mixed with the digestive acids, which in turn mixed with TJ giving him the ability to regenerate. It's silly I know, but this is initially how TJ keeps reappearing after I've drawn him in scenarios such as this for the sake of continuity. Keep in mind, no one else has special powers, nor do I intend to give anyone any as of this comment.
But back to Alivia and TJ's relationship; going back to page two, TJ wasn't supposed to see what she did to his cousin. Thus stating it was an "accident" and intended to play it off, as "oh no, someone/something must've gotten to her, crocodile tears apology" kind've thing. But, seeing as he did see, and called her out on it, her mood quickly changed. So yeah, she doesn't share the same affection to others she deems as prey, regardless of their relationship to TJ whether they be family, friends or whatever.
Oh yes, that sort of thing happens regularly to TJ because she can get away with it. Albeit, at TJ's expense 99% of the time, simply because there are no repercussions due to his ability. It's like having infinite lives in a game of Mario, now TJ doesn't see it that way, obviously, but what's he going to do? Tell her no? That just makes it that much for fun when it "does" happen since you tend to want what you can't have. Now it's not all bad, seeing as it gives him the chance to try things that would otherwise be seen as, "too dangerous" as long as it was him that was essentially the guinea pig and not someone he cared for. Otherwise, your comment on how far Alivia could push him into depression and break him would be true. Helplessly watching someone you cared for be devoured right in front of you knowing there's nothing you can do to help can easily get to anyone, even more so if you knew that if you switched places, everything would be alright in the end.
Now here's where it gets even more silly; I haven't drawn it out yet, but I've had the idea in mind ever since I first started drawing these two. TJ has had a crush on Alivia from the beginning, it's not anything serious as of yet, but it's in the stages of when you see that one girl across the room, and you just know there's something special about her. Leading you to do whatever it takes to spend more time with that person. It's been going on ever since they were in school together as kids and it never really changed as they've gotten older. He just has an insatiable infatuation with her and isn't quite sure why, but hey, love is blind.
Now I never expected to receive such a lengthy comment analyzing what I've done, nor did I expect to write one explaining what I've had in my head when I drew it, but you know what? I'm glad I did. I'm also glad there are people out there that will go to such lengths just to dissect the the growth (or lack thereof) of the relationships between characters as they've developed. At the end of the day, it's the people like you that make it seem like much more then pixels arranged on a screen.

Actually is prying my brain even more now damn you xD
To start off from seeing these two in a sort of happy go lucky scenario to now cropping up this sort of "hidden side" and introduction of new conflicts has me all sorts of pondering questions now haha.
Forget laws and all that, I just have an even greater need to find out more about these two than I had previous given the particular conflict shown here x.x
