Gale thought it odd that her personalized reading homework required her to start barefoot. Most of these books had a tendency to be written in a way that gave the instructions first, and the effects explained afterward. As usual, the professor just giggled as he gave the assignment out. A bad sign really.

But it was when she read aloud the part about "...[matching] the looks of my face to that of my sole" that she realized the book had a typo and stopped reading.

Mostly because of a tingling sensation in her jaw and a strange inability to read aloud any longer...
