Hey folks,
so, i don't even really know how to start writing this description since it's a kinda unusual picture.
Utunu approached me for a large scale picture a couple of weeks/months and since it's not something i've ever reeeeeally done i decided to give it a go (there were some larger scale pictures of course, but usually confined to about 3~4 characters maximum)
So, special thank you of course to Utunu and also everyone who participated!
And since i'm a renegade like that i also went ahead an nicked his short description blurb for the picture:
Every year, during the longest days around the summer solstice, tribes from all over collect at a common meeting ground.
News is shared, stories are told, goods are traded, friendships made and renewed, and for many this is a rare glimpse into the myriad tribes and cultures besides their own that share their world.
And all the characters from left to right:
Smokepaw(wolf) - displaying some leather
Nomax (painted dog) - observing the goings-on and thinking he looks far better in shoulder-fabrics than Utunu
SpotTheCat (cheetah) - inspecting the aforementioned leather
Clamcrusher (otter) - eating and chatting
Skips92 (king cheetah) - lounging and chatting
Utunu (painted dog) - posing for a woodcarving and wearing far more than he usually does
Bruma (Ethiopian wolf) - completing a transaction
Kalahari (African civet) - observing said transaction
CheetahLover (king cheetah) - the other party in aforementioned transaction
Keglunek (snow leopard) - the woodcarver sculpting a rare non-nude image of Utunu
Televassi (wolf) - observing the woodcarver at his work
Kikivuli (striped hyena) - also observing the woodcarver, and probably making disparaging comments about Utunu
Gnash.Hyena (spotted hyena) - bringing some furs and hides to trade
Stripetail (linsang) - wandering in, wondering what all the fuss is about

Yeah, since it was mostly Utunu's project i didn't really want to advertise it on my own page. Plus it would probably also not do any good to have like 50~100 more people looking to join! I'm sure Utunu already had a tricky enough time to decide! :D Thank you very much as well, and yeah, certainly a fun roster to paint!
The large cast seems to be condensed into an easy to view image while the depth portrays the area as not overly crowded. The image also effectively separates the individual groups while also pointing out the center of attention of each group.
There is also a general peace observed in the characters detailed here and this peace is even portrayed in the background characters, as a testament to the attention to detail.

Thank you very much, yeah figuring out the composition certainly was the most fun bit of it, even if with some bits i took a bit of an easy route, such as the while cloth for Utunu to seperate him from the background. But overall working on composition for such large pictures really is the most fun. Lots of elements one can play with.
Also, a little bit off topic i guess, but i assume you're using some sort of password manager? Or how can you remember your nickname? :D

Wow, this looks like it took you quite a lot of effort to do! I admire your dedication dude. I have enough trouble with two characters, and here you are doing a small crowd. There's this sense of muted colors in the palette which is super appealing. It almost feels kind of rainy!
Haha, yeah, figuring out the composition is actually by far the most fun thing about it. With so many characters you got a lot of stuff to play around with, but yeah, very time intensive as well. And yeah, colour pallet is actually a function over form decision. It's of course not an outlandish thing to have a more overcast feeling to something, but overcast lighting really simplifies stuff. Takes away most of the shadows, and keeping things simple is very important with an already complex picture like this. Just imagine how more busy it would be with all sorts of cast shadows, and every figure having lit and shadow areas. No fun at all. So, yeah, overcast for all the busy areas and then some hints of a sunset-ish time with the mountains and some on the tree and stone pillar too. Doesn't really make too much sense once you start to think about it, but , eh, looked good!
Well, for a first-timer in group picture involvement, it was absolutely worth it! It was a blast being a part of it's creation, and the end result made it worthwhile! I love it, and I know everyone else who took part in it does too! Thank You, for all of it, Nomax!
