Check out my C.o.C.K.!
This is a nixie clock I got recently. A nixie clock uses special display-type vacuum tubes that glow using neon gas and elements shaped like numbers or other symbols in an awesome retro fashion. Each of the tubes in the clock contains 10 elements: one each for the numbers 0 through 9.
These tubes were common 30 or 40 years ago but are now antiques. This clock uses old Dutch nixie tubes which haven't been made for about 20 or 30 years.
I have been wanting one of these for about a year now ever since I saw one at a dear, cute friend's house:
(I miss you wolfie!)
He got one as a gift from a friend and I was totally coveting it. His has Russian nixie tubes in it and a nice hardwood enclosure.
I really wanted this clock because it has 6 digits and because it has a superfluous neon tube in it just for looks and it is underlit by blue LEDs which looks fucking cool. It's partially made from salvaged electronics and you can see all the circuits which is also nifty. I love this shit.
The last digit was apparently changing from 7 to 8 when I took the bottom photo. This shows how the different numbers are stacked up inside the tube, one behind another.
Yeah, I know this is hardly furry. I suck. I should die. Still, I thought some furs would find it cool. I think its the stud's nads myself, and almost nothing could compete with those. =9

DO WANT! seriously the coolest clock I've ever seen, I want one so bad.
And when you say that Tubes are antiques isn't necessarily true, there is one thing that still runs on Vaccum tubes:
Guitar Amplifiers.
While some guitar amplifiers are made with Solid State transistors, many are still made with tubes for the sake of sound quality, tubes usually just sound better.
sorry, I'm a major guitar nut :P

Well, you have to want one bad, cause' they are expensive. You are right of course, some modern amps and receivers do use tubes for that warm analog sound, but these par-tic-u-lar tubes are antiques. Some nixies have come back into production to address the new demand, but most are old tubes that have been sitting around for decades. No apologies needed BTW. I am well versed in manias. =)
I knew you of all furs would appreciate this. I was gonna' build one myself but I would probably never finish the damn thing so I bought this one. I still wonder what the hell that giant tube you have would look like in use. I wonder if it lit up or just sat there being huge? Either way, it looked really cool and really dangerous. (BZZZZT!) Oh shit, my eyebrows! Oh shit, my everything! I'm fucking dead!
LOL! That thing? It's a 5kw microwave final stage amplifier tube. The only glowing it did was from the heater element in it. Since it has no actual gas in it, there's no discharge display like in a nixie tube or neon tube. Sad, huh? would be cool to see the thing glowing. :)
Yeah, I've lookked at a few nixie tube projects over the years. Always thought a clock would be cool. Though cooler, would be a nixie Hex display for the front panel of an IMSAI 8080 :)

Coincidentally, I recently found myself puzzling over the exact function of a high-power pulse transformer. Apparently it amplified a non-sinusoidal waveform for driving the magnetron in an RF tracking application. It had a heating element anode in the same connector. I guess that the heater is to bring the magnetron up to optimal operating temperature?
There just might be some tubes that display 0-9 and A-F all in one package (a lot I know, but I've seen some with 13 or more symbols in them) that you could use for that idea. Either that or you could use the type that use the digital display style of segmented symbols. That *would* rock either way.

That's right. He went all the way there for that cup and came right back. There's a commemorative hemorrhoid pillow in London I'm sending him out to get next week with Elton John's face on it marking the day when everyone on Earth collectively realized he was a complete fag.
Edward the Horse is a hot, pudgy little stud I am totally in lust with. I found him a while back and then promptly discovered he's really fucking hard to find outside of Deutschland. When Chaz made a trip there last year, I coerced him to buy every last bit of Edward the sexy, pudgy, big-dicked stud merchandise in the entire fucking Fatherland.
I want him so bad. Edward, please rape me. Please.

Get some Edward the Horse plush's or a nice zebra, who looks amazingly gay... http://www.nici-shop.de/nici-shop.p.....8c754.24658091
There are kits, and you can get pieces from random places.
Actually, in Albuquerque, NM, there is an VERY OLD electronics gear shop, with a basket of Nixie tubes, $4.00 ea.
Other than USA, there is alot of places over seas to get Nixie's, Japan's Radio Alley, and Russia.
Radio Shack actually used to have a kit for this.
