The Mealtime Misadventure
Kai’s Journey Part 1
By Thorne
The bond between humans and Pokemon is constantly evolving. First they were enemies, now they were partners. How would it change next? Little did everyone know, the next stage would start with one curious boy...
“Be careful sweetie, and be back before dinner!”
“I will, see you later!”
Dust trailed behind Kai’s tires as he biked down the dirt road. It was a beautiful summer day - sunshine caressed his skin and a gentle breeze sent waves through the fields of grass. Any other time he would have slowed down to enjoy the sight, but he didn’t want to be late.
Every day at 11 AM on the dot the Professor fed all of the Pokemon on his ranch. It was amazing to watch. Hundreds of Pokemon, big and small and of all different types, congregated together to share their meal. The field wasn’t open to the public, but it was fine to watch from behind the fence.
Kai went almost every day.
He loved Pokemon. He hadn’t started his journey yet, but until he did he was determined to interact with them as much as he could, even if it was from a distance. He’d take every chance he had.
When he arrived at the ranch he abandoned his bike in the grass and ran up to the Professor’s wooden fence. Its beams were as wider than he was and it was taller than his house. It needed to be strong to contain the largest Pokemon the Professor had. Kai was just shorter than the second rung, but at least it didn’t block his view. A shorter chain-link fence was right behind it to make sure none of the smaller Pokemon slipped through.
Feeding troughs of all sizes were arranged in rows behind it. They extended out into the field so Pokemon could eat from both sides. The one for the largest Pokemon was tall and deep for their convenience, but the smallest one barely rose above his kneecaps. As always Kai planted himself in the spot that would get him as close as possible to the largest.
A bell rang and resonated through the fields. Distant calls of Pokemon reached his ears, making him clench the fence and lean forward. It was finally starting!
A Rapidash crested the hill and galloped through the grass with its herd following close behind. The Mustang was the biggest in the herd and towered over the others - when they reached the troughs it split off from the rest and came over to the largest. It walked like a king, radiating power and grace with every step. But then it lowered its long neck into the basin and disappeared from Kai’s view.
Pokemon of all sizes rushed over the hill as if a dam had burst. A Nidoking and Nidoqueen held hands and joined the Rapidash, followed by a Kangaskhan and a Rhydon. Soon Kai’s view of the field was blocked, but the volume of the Pokemon’s chatter kept increasing as a crowd formed. The troughs were large, but they still weren’t big enough for everyone to eat at once.
All the Pokemon dug in and the sounds of their munching filled his ears, and Kai was left staring at their feet. Like always. Sure, he could go watch the smallest Pokemon eat, but they just didn’t have the majesty the final evolutions. And as cool as the glimpses he could get were, by now he could recognize all of their feet. He wanted more.
And from where he was standing, the fence looked like a giant wooden ladder.
He glanced around, usually there were a few others watching too but today he was alone. There was no one to stop him if he wanted to get a closer look.
Kai jumped onto the first wooden beam and reached up for the next. Rough splinters pricked his palms, but he ignored them and pulled himself up. Once he made it, he moved onto the next. It wasn’t any harder to climb than a jungle gym, it was just bigger. Whenever he struggled he kicked off the large trough that was flush with the fence - having the extra wall was surprisingly helpful.
He moved as fast as he could. If he took too long the Pokemon would all be done eating and his work would be for nothing.
Five rungs up his arms started to burn and he reached the top of the trough. If he looked over he’d have a good view of all the Pokemon eating, but he restrained himself. There was still two to go until the top, and he wanted the best view possible.
It would be worth it, he knew it.
Arms shaking, he pulled himself onto the last rung and straddled it between his knees. He’d done it, he’d made it to the top, and now he could admire the view he’d earned.
Hundreds of Pokemon crowded below, happily playing and eating in a chaotic mess. And in front of him, all the largest were lined up along their trough. From up here they seemed even bigger, almost like they weren’t even real. He’d always had to look up at them, seeing them from the sky almost felt forbidden.
Kai relaxed and sat forward with his feet hanging over the beam. It was so large it was basically a bench, even if it was up high in the air. He might as well get comfortable, he was going to watch from up here for as long as he could.
A large Fearow swooped in and perched on the basin’s edge, buffeting Kai as it flapped its wings to stop. It reached down with its long, nimble beak and snatched a Pecha berry before a Meganium could grab it.
A splash of light blue caught his eye and he leaned forward. Was that a Feraligatr? It was! The large blue water Pokemon trailed at the back of the line behind a Golem. Kai didn’t see it often, the Professor said it preferred to take its meals at the pond.
His weight shifted forward, and he kept sliding down even though he leaned back. He tried hugging the wooden beam with his legs but it was too late - his grip failed and he fell off the fence.
His stomach dropped and he braced for a hard landing, but after his brief time in the air his body sunk into something mushy and cold. It was the Pokemon food. He’d landed in the feeding trough, and the oats and berries cushioned his fall. They covered him completely and he had to dig his head out, which was a little gross but still preferable to the hard landing he otherwise would have had.
The basin’s steep metal walls were too tall for him to climb out by himself, he’d either have to get one of the Pokemon to help or wait for the Professor when he came by with the next meal. But until then he was content where he was. His view might be limited to who was currently eating, but he’d never been this close to the larger Pokemon. Just a few feet from him the Rapidash was lazily chewing on berries, and a Ninetales was right beside it!
Something sharply tugged his hair and he winced. Kai looked up to find the long neck of an Ampharos, and at its end it was chewing on his hair! The electric Pokemon sucked on the strands, trying to extract all the berry juice trapped within, and prodded his skull with its tongue.
The Ampharos was tasting him, this was so cool! Falling off the fence was the best thing that had ever happened to him. He tried to keep still, but couldn’t contain a small giggle.
“Murrr.”
Ampharos brought its head down and met his eyes, they were so close their noses were almost touching. Kai smiled and the Ampharos curiously tilted its head, and tentatively licked his cheek.
“Murrr!”
The other Pokemon looked over at the electric type’s happy squeal, and came closer to investigate. The Ninetales burrowed her nose into his neck and sniffed, and a Tauros dragged his wide tongue across his ear on the other side. Soon he couldn’t hold back his laughter as he was taste-tested by all the Pokemon. Their tongues were ticklish!
The Rapidash nudged the Ampharos to the side and leaned down. Kai was breathless as its muzzle came closer and closer, eclipsing his view until the beige lips flapped over his eyes. Its tongue ran over his face and the Pokemon gently nibbled on his chin.
The fire horse gave him a long, appraising look. Kai could only stare back into its fierce eyes. The Rapidash nodded, as if it settled its mind, and clamped its teeth around his hair and yanked him out of the berries like a root. Now with his whole body exposed, a swarm of hungry mouths rushed forward to get a taste.
All his limbs were pulled apart by the various mouths and nearly lifted him into the air. The Nidoking and Nidoqueen took an arm and a leg, and the Ampharos sucked on his other hand while the Tauros gnawed on the elbow. A Persian, who had the roughest tongue yet, claimed his other leg. Thankfully none of them bit down hard, but Kai couldn’t contain his squirming. He was dragged back and forth as the Pokemon jockeyed for better angles and somewhere along the way his shoes were lost - the feel of all their tongues on him at once was like being trapped by a full body tickle that showed no sign of stopping!
Worst of all was the Rapidash and the Ninetales. Their tongues rode up his shirt and gave them easy access to team up on his soft stomach. They were relentless. An eager Houndoom lapped at his face and drowned out his squeals with its drool.
Dragonite danced around the gathered Pokemon and made his way over to the feeding trough. It was his favorite time of day, feeding time, and today something smelled amazing. There was already a commotion close by, today must be a special day!
As soon as the Venusaur vacated her spot Dragonite rushed in and shoved some berries in his mouth. He chewed and mashed them against his palette and flavor exploded onto his tongue. He loved berry days, they were so easy to eat. They barely required any force at all until they were mush.
He closed his eyes in bliss and dove back into the trough, snout fervently sniffing as he inhaled the food. This berry was elusive, but it would be his. He started to follow the scent to its source.
He nudged an indignant Houndoom to the side. The berry was close, right in front of him. He snaked his tongue out and wrapped it around the delicacy..
The sweet and salty berry exploded onto his tongue, it was amazing, and such a big specimen! His tongue alone wasn’t big enough to take it all in. He opened his mouth wide and shoved the berry into his mouth, unknowingly dislodging a multitude other mouths as he did so.
Kai could only stare with wide eyes and gape as the Dragonite’s maw opened up and engulfed his entire body.
Dragonite stood up and chewed on his mouthful, enjoying this new and exotic flavor. Kai’s feet kicked in the air outside it and squirmed, but his struggles were useless. He shoved against the dragon’s cheeks and tried to grab the creature’s tongue but it was no use. No matter what he did the dragon kept slamming him against the roof of its mouth.
Kai still thought this was cool because it was a Dragonite. He was in a Dragonite’s mouth. But he was getting worried the Pokemon thought he really was food. HIs lungs were starting to burn and he would probably have bruises wherever the creature’s teeth bit down.
Dragonite threw his head back and prepared to swallow, but then one of his fangs hit something hard. None of the berries should have been hard, did he not chew well enough? A part of the berry was still dangling outside his mouth, he sucked it in and pushed it around his bulging cheeks.
It moved! Dragonite cringed and plucked it out of his mouth like an offending hair.
Kai dangled in front of the Dragonite’s nose like a wet kitten, shirt pinched between the creature’s fingers and drenched in its tingling saliva. Puffs of the dragon’s warm breath washed over him as the large Pokemon blinked in surprise.
Dragonite tossed Kai over his shoulder and went back to the food trough – mealtime was no place for a human child. It was a shame, the boy was quite tasty too.
Kai tumbled through the air and once again landed in a mound of berries and fruit. But this time they weren’t in a trough, just a giant pile on the ground. Was the Professor saving them for later?
Boom. Boom. Boom. The ground shook at a slow tempo as something approached. A shadow fell over him and a monstrous silhouette blocking out the sun.
“Snoooorlax.”
The giant, gluttonous Pokemon looked down at his pile of food with a grin that showed off his twin fangs. If he knew Kai was in his pile of food, he didn’t show it.
BOOM. The Snorlax sat down and shoveled a bushel of fruit into his mouth. He barely chewed before swallowing it all down and reached for more.
Kai realized, far too late, that the large paw was reaching toward him.
He tried to scramble back but only caused the fruit to shift and trap him further. The Snorlax’s paw scooped around him and slowly lifted him and the berries up into the air. He only had a chance to see a trail of juice trickle down the Pokemon’s chin before its mouth opened before him like a cavern and he was shoved inside.
Kai hugged himself into the large, wet tongue and held on for dear life as it mashed him and the fruit together. There was no opportunity for resistance, or escape. The berries were quickly pulverized against the Snorlax’s palette. Glimpses of sunlight came through every time it chewed, but the outside may as well be unreachable. The Pokemon’s tongue was all-powerful and overwhelming, muffling his cries and owning his body. Kai could only move where Snorlax allowed, and what it wanted was him.
Drool coated his body, soaking into all his pores, but it also made him slimy. Every lick slid along his skin a little easier than the last, maybe this was just what he needed.
He curled into a ball as he was grinded into the hard palate. The berries around him were paste, this might be his last chance. As soon as the tongue relaxed, he kicked off against the roof of the Snorlax’s mouth and shot toward the light.
His hands broke free, and the tongue slammed into his chin and shoved him back inside. The Pokemon’s chewing resumed as if his attempt hadn’t been made - maybe the Snorlax hadn’t even noticed. He let his body go loose and sank into the spongy tongue, the ride was a little more pleasant when he wasn’t struggling. There was no stopping it. He was Pokemon food now.
The tongue surged up - Kai slid back and the wall of flesh pinned him against the throat. It smushed into him and prevented all movement, his back slipped into a thing crevice that gradually took in more and more of his body.
Snorlax swallowed.
The throat clenched and plunged him into darkness. The hard muscles were coated in slime and contoured to his body, not leaving any room for movement. They pulled him down, slow and unyielding, barely giving him room to breathe. Finally, he hit a barrier and was squeezed through. After a short fall he landed in a pile of mush.
It was the stomach. The Snorlax ate him, and now he was in its stomach. As he sat there in shock, another pile of half-chewed berry mush dropped onto his head and coated his body. He shouted in disgust and crawled through the slippery mush to the other side of the stomach, as difficult as it was with the organ quaking in all directions.
At least over here he was out of the splash zone.
Kai didn’t know what was going to happen to him now. He doubted anyone had gotten a closer look at a Snorlax than him now, but was this where he was going to die? Was he going to dissolve and become a part of the mush as he was laying in?
Snorlax’s internal heat radiated through him, and as gross as it was the berry mush felt better on him than a hot bath. The stomach was so large he wasn’t lacking for air any time soon, though it was humid and stale. No matter what he’d be in here for a while...
Even if he died in here, Kai couldn’t deny how cool this was. He was literally inside a Pokemon! He could hear every beat of the Snorlax’s heart, and he shifted up with every large breath. He laid back to take it all in, he didn’t want to miss anything. All the while the Snorlax kept eating, and soon the thick berry mush came up to his chest.
Tiny specs of light fell down with the next slush and illuminated the stomach like tiny stars. They provided just enough light for him to see the stomach’s thick, pulsating walls. It was bigger than he thought, about as big as his bathroom back home, though shaped like a bag.
He waded through the berries with some difficulty, the stomach was constantly spasming now which made him slip into the mush, until he came to the lights. They were seeds. There must have been Luna berries in that pile, they were the only fruit he knew of that had bioluminescent seeds.
A torrent of cold water, probably the outside temperature but ice cold after being in the stomach for so long, fell onto Kai and filled the stomach even more. It mixed in and made the mush more liquidy - his feet barely reach the stomach’s smooth floor now, but the mush was still thick enough for him to float on top.
His world surged as the Snorlax flopped onto his back. He wasn’t ready for the fruity mixture to pile on top of him and some of it got into his mouth. When the stomach settled and Kai reemerged he found that it had flattened out. It was shallow enough for him to comfortably stand again, though the ceiling wasn’t much taller than his head. After wading a circuit he found a spot against the slimy wall that was shallow enough for him to sit down in relative peace.
Snorlax’s heavy snores reverberated throughout the organ’s walls. They were hypnotic, and between them, the warmth, and the powerful heartbeat, Kai found himself falling asleep too. He just hoped it wouldn’t be for good.
This had been an amazing day. He’d met so many cool Pokemon, he wanted the chance to do it all over again.
Kai closed his eyes and sleep overtook him. If he had stayed awake any longer he might have noticed the visible energy that leaked out of his body and mixed into the mush.
He woke up to distant thumps and rhythmic swaying. It was dark and warm - a smooth, slick blanket cradled his body. Was he dead?
“snooorlax.”
The faint cry of the Pokemon reminded Kai where he was. He was still in the stomach, but now it was completely empty except for him and the layer of slime that perpetually coated the organ’s walls.
The Snorlax stopped walking and the stomach became still, or as still as the organ could be. Then the walls starting glowing, faint at first but it soon became blinding. Kai closed his eyes and something forced him to hug his knees and bundled him into a ball.
His body accelerated, and before he knew it the Snorlax ejected him from its mouth with a soft burp.
Kai landed in a small pond with a splash, disturbing a Wooper and making it jump away. Was… was that the move Spit Up? Had the Snorlax used him for one of its moves?
The giant Pokemon lumbered away, but after taking a few steps it turned back and winked. It must have known Kai was there all along.
Kai dunked himself in the cold water until his body was washed clean of drool and slime. The ranch fence was in sight, though it was far away and the sun was low in the sky. But he still had plenty of time to make it home before dinner.
Every step was a struggle. He was exhausted, even though he’d just slept for hours inside the Snorlax’s stomach, and somehow all his bruises from being chewed were gone. He didn’t question it, anything was better than explaining what happened to his Mom.
He found a hole in the fence and slipped through, making the spot in his mind for later. There was no way he could climb the fence again today.
As Kai slowly rode his bike home, he thought of everything that had happened. He’d met so many cool Pokemon, and their tongues, and mouths. He would never forget what it was like in the Snorlax’s stomach...
He couldn’t wait to do it again, but next time he’d leave his shoes at his bike.
The End.

The End.
