A lot of Ikuhara's work is like that. For example I grew up with Sailor Moon. I was always enamoured with henshins and super attacks. Even if its reused stock footage. Same is true with Utena. It does allow for moments of "spot the difference" later in the series too.
But, with that said I can understand the issue you're having.

Yeah, I've tried to get a few friends into it and a lot of them couldn't. It's been a bit easier to do so now since you can binge to the more serious aspects, but I enjoyed the fun bits in the start as well.
More so I'm glad someone recognized and appreciated the effort I put into the poses and render. x3
