There was once a powerful Spirit, known as the Silver Mother. The Mother wanted nothing more than to have a loving daughter. But as she could bear no children herself, she took to abducting human girls, hoping to win their love. But the girls were never happy under her unsettling care, and so the Mother disposed of each one in turn.
After many turns of this, the Mother had an idea: make the girls some friends! Pinkie was one such playmate. Originally a human police officer, he was taken by the Mother and twisted into a cute little rabbit-girl. His memories were suppressed, replaced with careful training and indoctrination.
For a time, Pinkie lived in the Mother's manor, trying to keep her daughters entertained. Many daughters came and went, as did many of Pinkie's fellow playmates, having displeased the Mother in one way or another. But by luck or will, Pinkie survived.
Eventually Pinkie's memories returned, and he realised just how fucked his situation was. He fled the Mother's manor, and found his way back to Earth, guided by his memories. But when he got home to Hamilton, he found the world had changed. It was not the 1970s any more. It was 2011, some 30 years later. His friends and family had all either died or forgotten him. And if they hadn't, there was no way they would recognise him now from his Mask.
Worse still, Pinkie found the Mother's conditioning impossible to shake. Left to his own devices, he became a cheerful, scatter-brained little girl. Only with great effort could he think and act like an adult.
Unless, he discovered, he got drunk – In Vino, Veritas, it seemed. But with drunkenness came depression. All his problems came into focus, and the sheer scope of his issues made him yearn to be a child again.
But he couldn't embrace his carefree kid-side either, because the Silver Mother was hunting him. She was furious that one of her slaves escaped, and if re-captured, Pinkie would never get away again. And the longer he was sober, the harder it became to remember what was so bad about the Mother in the first place. All he could recall was her beauty.
Pinkie found some security with the Night Court – a gang of Changelings like himself, who had all been taken and twisted by Spirits, and escaped back to the real world. The Night Court offered Pinkie no end of sympathy, support and protection, for the Courtiers had all been through similar trauma.
But Pinkie's true problems are his own. Trapped in a body he doesn't want, saddled with a mind he can barely control, and disconnected from everyone and everything he ever knew and loved, there is only so much the Court can do. Pinkie is a troubled soul, and until he finds some new purpose in life, his only solace lies at the bottom of a bottle.
