Duke is a high-ranking member of the Night Court. He is an accomplished fighter and sorcerer, and the respected right-hand-man of Deadman, the King of Night and the Court's leader.
Duke was originally a human, a married man, and an expecting father. He was stolen away by the Fae, scarcely an hour after his daughter was born. His Keeper turned Duke into a corgi, and stripped away his memories of his old life.
Duke spent a year and a day living in his Keeper's care, as a dog in an unreal suburban neighbourhood. He was happy in that time, living the idle life of a housepet. He grew into a fierce protector of the other dogs in the neighbourhood, taking pride in his strength and self-appointed duty.
But one day, Duke stumbled upon his old memories, that his Keeper had kept stashed away. He remembered his life as a human, the existence of a world outside the neighbourhood, his family and his abduction. And he found, along with his memories, his wedding ring.
Duke confronted his Keeper about the abduction, demanding to know why he had been taken. His Keeper explained that they "wanted Duke to be happy" – that they had taken away his memories to set him free from "all the troubles of human life". Duke rejected this notion: he had been ready to become a father, and would have been happy living with his wife. His Keeper stole that from him.
Duke fled his Keeper shortly after, as they tried to remove his memories and make him "happy" again. His wedding ring was rich in sympathetic power, and through it, Duke was able to resist his Keeper's control, find his way through the Hedge, and return home to Hamilton.
Back on Earth, Duke discovered that during the year and a day he spent in Arcadia, ten years had passed in the real world. His wife, Lisa, had long since concluded that he was dead, having vanished in mysterious circumstances a decade prior. She had given him up for lost, and found a new partner. Meanwhile Duke's daughter, Belle, was 10 years old, and had never known Duke as her father.
Seeing his life in utter ruins, Duke fell into despair. He came close to suicide, but was saved by the love and support of Deadman. The King of Night took a special interest in Duke's plight, and aided him in reconnecting with his wife, and revealing to her the truth of his dissappearance. The couple remain in contact to this day, though their relationship is secret, and strained.
In return for their aid, Duke swore undying loyalty to Deadman and the Night Court. He has found new purpose working to support the Court, and protect its Changelings from the predations of the Fae. While he has learned to fight in Changeling style, Duke's main job is simply being a liaison for the Night Courtiers, visiting members around the city and checking up on them. Listening to their problems, offering advice and sympathy, being a shoulder to cry on.
Despite trying to live as a human, Duke retains a number of dog-like quirks, instincts and preferences. He is unable to ignore objects thrown to him (such as balls, sticks and frisbees), and will attempt to catch them with his teeth. He feels acute distress if he's not wearing something around his neck, like a collar or bandana. And he prefers to sleep in a dog-bed rather than a regular human one, among other oddities.
Regardless, Duke is a kind, patient and selfless man, who cares deeply about the welfare of his fellow Courtiers, both Day and Night. This has earned him a great deal of respect, both among his peers in the Courts, and the local occult underground in general.

It's a deadly weapon.
The white shells are alchemical, loaded with all sorts of different effects. The gun has a modified firing mechanism so it can ignite the shells and fire them.
It's a Nerf gun so Duke can carry it around in public, without people realising that he's toting a pistol-sized bazooka.
