Finally uploaded the modified firmware to my 3D printed so I can print my new horns in full size. Well, almost full size it printed 340mm instead of 350mm as I haven't calibrated my printer yet. But it is close enough. Like no one is going to take a tape measure to it or anything.
But yeah, I need to update the firmware as the factory one locked the z-axis to 250mm and can't be overridden in the G-Code. I already physically modified the vertical rails to reach an insane height of 750mm by combining an extension kit with the stock rails. I need to extend the wires to the gantry but the stock wires can hit just over 400mm, plenty for the horns so I am putting that off until I need to go higher than that. But it is nice to know that I could go crazy if I need to in the future.
These horns I made with just 2 layers thick to try to keep the weight down. They are quite stiff but somewhat fragile as they can easily be crushed if I am not careful. If it becomes an issue, I can print it thicker. I could also just make extra sets, maybe a set that can light up too.
Speaking of weight, they are slightly longer than the old foam ones I "temporary" made and pull a little bit more on the magnets. So they wasn't sticking to the head as strong as I would like. I solved that but removing the 1/4" thick rubber pad on the bottom of the horn bases and hot-glued some fabric in its place, bringing the magnets closer to the ones in the head and thus improving the grip so they don't slip as much. I might tweak it some more.
The horns in the pics are raw prints. I haven't painted them yet. I plan on keeping the white as the base color and add some shading to give them some depth. Going to test some ideas on the scaled down test prints I did beforepaw. There is a fur meetup coming up in a couple of weeks (more on that later) so I probably wait until after that depending if I have time. I still want to do my tail and paws too. But we shall see.
At any case, I think these horns look so much better even unpainted than the foam stand-ins that I rushed so I could have something before a furcon a couple of years ago. The old ones started to fall apart anyway.
What is nice about the horns is that I made them detachable. So I can replace them as needed or of I come up with better designs. While the new set is such a big improvement over the original ones I made, there are some aspects I felt I could have done better. But still I am happy with them so far.
In total, I have remade my eyes, fangs, and now horns in 3D print along with some accessories. The next thing to print is probably my claws. Eventually I'll print the head base too but that is for version Monty 2.0 whenever that occurs.

It is certainly getting there. In the process of painting it now. Got it primed and got the white base coat. Going to try to shade it with some acrylic paints I have but I want to test it on the smaller prototype prints I made. That is a nice thing about a 3D printer, I can make all kinds of test copies before committing on the real thing. Plus any backups in case the main ones gets damaged. Maybe even makes some in different styles and colors. Anything goes pretty much.
I been invited to a furmeet in Houston in a couple of weeks. A bit of a way but I drove down there a few times. A long, boring drive but manageable. Shorter than going to Dallas for TFF. Now that was a road trip, almost double.
It'll be kinda a test run for StratosFur next month. I got in before they hit their cap, pre-regged and reserved my Hotel room. Going to be interesting getting back into the swing of things. Been so long. The last con I attended was ACFI back in 2019. My how times have changed. Since I have my double hocky pocky okey dokey vaxxie maxxie, I should fine.
I also continue wearing my mask in public as much as I can (it seems a lot in SA are doing the same thankfully) even though I been vaccinated. I am quite used to it due to wearing it for over a year now. Plus I am using it to help me get kinda used to breathing in the fursuit head as it provide similar resistance to my breath. Not exactly the same but close enough to hopefully help out when I put on the real me.
