Quest 2: The Magician
Continuation of the previous post || next post
And so the crew of two hired a cruise across the ocean, Captain Jane Megalodone of the 700 seas promised to give them safe passage to kobold rock at the expense of offering her a 30% cut of all treasure they'd find there. She has not been to Kobold Rock before but she has seen it in the distance plenty of times, it's reddish orange spire can be seen from far away and it's colourful inhabitants looked like skittles lost in sand. Oatmeal joined her in her uproarious laughter, she doesn't know what skittles are but it sounded very funny to her. Evan could barely take part of the conversation, though he claimed to not fear the sea but it's easy to see he might have been lying... "No wonder Tabitha chickened out" he thought to himself.
After a day's long trip across the pond the ship finally anchored ashore, the three of them took the plunge down to the beach and had a good look around.
"Arrrright travellerrrs, this is as far as the fleet goes. Me an' me crew will stay 'ere til ya come back. I'd join ya but, quite frankly I don't think ya have that kind of cash with ya, Harrharrharr!" Captain Jane roared as she gave Evan's back a royal slap, thank god he was wearing armor. The tabaxi prince turned around and took a good last look at the ship, it would be here for them upon their return...
Evan and Oatmeal could see a cinnamon-stick-looking giant tower roughly a kilometre away and they wasted no time travelling there on foot!
"Huh, there sure are... a lot of rocks here, they like look like they've been like dumped here or something. Unless kobolds love to dig them up..." Oatmeal puzzled over the landscape. Much like she said it was quite the rocky field surrounding them. The ground had been paved with fine stone and you could see sculptures here and there, but there were plenty of boulders, rocks and gravel spread around the place. Kobolds too of course, but most immediately hid behind the boulders as the two large figures walked through.
"They were dumped here. Countries all over Noor dump rocks here because the common conception is that kobolds will just eat it... Which they will, but not as fast as people think. This place is called Kobold Rock for a reason" Evan replied. The kobolds were starting to peek up at the unfamiliar giants and oogled at the rare weapons they were carrying, they were so nice and shiny reflecting the sun! In fact a few of them thought Evan's sword looked familiar...
"Wow dude... Noah told you that and you like tried to pass it off as you being smart huh?" Oatmeal chuckled and coiled her arm around her friend. Evan smiled, "Haha yeah, yeah... He should know everything about this place, being a kobold himself and all". Oatmeal stopped dead in her tracks with her mouth wide agape, "NOAH'S A KOBOLD?? I THOUGHT HE WAS A DOG...". Evan erupted into a hearty laughter, "Hahahah yeah! Kobolds from the east look like dogs! Given his size it can be confusing, but there are dead give-aways, like his 4 digit hands and 3 digit feet! And not to mention the teeth on the guy, those fangs are scary when you get a closer look at th-"
"You there, giant cat!" a green kobold interrupted, Oatmeal and Evan turned around and looked below (Easier for Evan than it was for Oatmeal). "Are you here for the delivery? The grand wizard has been waiting all day for you! You must come with me at once, many travellers get lost on their way to the tower and I can show you the way!" the little lizard piped up, immediately scurrying along. The Imp and the Tabaxi looked at each other. "Wiiiiizard? Do you think they mispronounced Lizard or something?" Oatmeal whispered to her comrade. "I don't know, but we might as well run with it if it brings us to the tower quicker."
Another step into the story! This time I am taking time to explore more of my worldbuilding, Noor is a huge place with unique locations and Kobold Rock is no different! Thank you so much to Bats for letting me borrow a familiar face for Evan and Oatmeal's escort! And thank you so much Jangle for doing such a big drawing for me!
