I was asked how the cloning process works in my Star Wars Dragon AU, and felt the need to draw out some of the concepts.
PLEASE DON'T TELL ME IT LOOKS LIKE WOF SEAWING HATCHERIES
I know, that's where I got the idea
This is a typical incubation cave for batches of dragon clones. Cloning requires some magic use as well as empty eggs. Since empty eggs can be hard to come by in large numbers, Kaminoan dragons use round glass vials. They look a bit like those glass fishing floats with the nets around them. Said vials are enchanted to have their properties match that of eggs, but with a lot more control over how cells will be formed. Kaminoan dragons are extremely proficient in magic dealing with 'growth' (which we would likely say is just cell formation and replication) so they will closely monitor the vials of growing clones to make sure they are perfect. Inhibitor chips translate to a simple yet powerful enchantment that binds to a section in the clone's brains.
A typical 'nest' of clones is a tube in a cave wall or pillar that will contain a drawer with the 'glass eggs' on it. Kind of like the cold storage in a morgue, except these caves are kept very warm so the clones can incubate. Said caves are also underwater, since it's easier to maintain a constant temperature in liquid. Yes, incubation caves are just a glorified sous vide.
These caves are kept warm by geothermal energy that is controlled with magic. When clones are close to hatching, their nesting drawers are transported to above water cave networks so the young clones can be born and start growing and training.
