A simple transformation story this time. Wanted to do something SFW. Next story should be TG or pregnancy, or both. As always, please enjoy.
Anthropomorphic animals were aplenty ever since the Grand Shift which ended up transforming the Earth, the solar system and everything else around them. The most obvious change was how Neo Earth had become vastly larger than before, with many scientists easily stating that the land that humanity was occupying now didn’t even amount to ten percent, while some said that the total population only occupied around five to six percent.
That naturally didn’t account for the seas and oceans which had also expanded exponentially, and since the Grand Shift also ended up combining the landmasses that were originally separate continents together, it would take a while before they could fully explore Neo Earth. This was the current state despite there being space travel, and despite more than a dozen smaller planets having been colonized and having people living on them as well.
The transformation of people into more animalistic forms had spread so commonly throughout the centuries that scientists compared it to an evolution of sorts. While their physical features had been changed drastically, many anthros were human, or even born from a human and anthro pairing. Since the landmasses had expanded and then combined as well, there was more unity between everyone, no matter what the species.
Of course, there was also research into seeing whether or not such transformations could be controlled, whether a human wanted to become anthropomorphic, or an anthro wanted to become more humanoid. Breakthroughs had been discovered, formulas had been optimized, volunteers had been changed permanently. With experiments and hypotheses came failures, naturally, which ultimately couldn’t be avoided. Everything on that front was trial and error when trying to transform DNA sequences in order to physically change someone’s body and the way that it functioned.
Eventually, though, there had been a stabilizing point, where such changes caused no long-lasting effects, and for even some of the more volatile ones, there was medicine taken to mitigate the pain experienced through it all. Pills and potions, cakes and candies, even injections and surgery, being able to transform into one’s ideal form soon became something that could make a massive profit for the ordinary citizen in the Neo Earth Federation.
When it didn’t happen willingly, however, most of the time that was also a random chance just like when the whole phenomenon had started centuries ago. Someone wakes up completely transformed, others go through the process in years, months, weeks, days, or even as quickly as a few hours or minutes depending on the person themselves.
Such an initially unwilling case happened with Tyler, who woke up one morning to find out that he was growing black feathers against his back. Naturally the first thing he did was shuffle on some clothing as best as he could and scramble over to the hospital to see what was occurring. Hearing that he was transforming shocked and upset him quite a bit, especially when he felt he had no problems with his body, and he certainly did not want to transform into a bird.
Nothing wrong with birds, of course. He didn’t find anything wrong with persons either born or wanted to change into half-human, half-animals, and he never had a problem with anthros either. At the end of the day, they were people as well. But that naturally didn’t mean that he would be filled with joy in hearing that a Shift was happening to him as well. For a few hours after he had gotten the results, he found himself in a light daze.
Sure, there was a possibility that he was simply growing a cool pair of black wings that might even allow him to fly. They would be large and a pain to maneuver, but the image of being able to soar into the clouds made up for that in the long run. Of course, the doctor had also stated that because he didn’t feel any sort of pain from his shoulder blades that it was also unlikely. He would need to wait and see before there were any conclusions, especially since they couldn’t estimate how long it would take for him to completely transform. Science and technology had evolved with Hyper Lifeline Industries, but there was always something to be discovered, especially in the new world they were living in.
There had even been reports of supernatural occurrences happening, more so than the fact that mythical creatures were walking about on two legs and having families of their own. Of course, Tyler had been told to visit monthly or even weekly until he was completely transformed. He had agreed to let his progress be reported on and sent to the industries to study. Since it was happening, he didn’t feel any harm in doing so.
As such, when he went back home, he had gotten a nice, warm bath, since it would be the last time he would be able to see his pale skin without any feathers on it, possibly. He wanted to mentally prepare himself for the fact that he was Shifting. And it seemed to work too, since he had calmed himself down significantly. Unknowingly, though, that actually helped to speed up his body’s transformation, since he ended up accepting that it was going to happen, and that he couldn’t stop it though he wanted to.
After the bath came him simply going through the rest of the day until he fell asleep a little before midnight, not even staying up until Saturday morning like he was used to. The bright morning sun found him stretching out… and even more feathers covering his body. At the same time, a long look in the mirror plus another trip to the doctor confirmed that he had lost a good three inches of his height.
Those raven black feathers now covered even more of his back and a bit of his front. X-rays also noted that his bone structure was slowly but surely getting lighter, the density going away somewhat. Of course, while that was happening, there were no internal or external problems that were occurring because of it either. Tyler seemed to be Shifting rather painlessly. That in itself was naturally a good thing.
And so the second day came and went after the next checkup and with him trying to go through the day as normally as possible. Surprisingly the feathers themselves felt quite soft. He had assumed that while transforming they were going to irritate him like others had noted during their Shifts. Of course, he was glad that he was wrong on that front, at least when it came to him.
What did hurt, however, was that when Tyler went to get early that night as well, that he got woken up by his legs and feet morphing at a visible pace. It seemed that he had gotten off easy the first two days, because now he could feel his body changing immensely. Such sensations caused a cry to fall out from his lips as well. By the end of it, he nearly collapsed.
When he finally gasped for enough breath to try and get up shakily, not only did his feathers spread fully across his torso and back while beginning to creep down his shoulders, he now sported a pair of deadly talons where his feet used to be. For a few minutes, he tried walking about in his apartment. Besides the clacking on wood and tiles, plus the fact that he lost two ‘toes’, everything practically felt the same in terms of him being able to move about.
Naturally, though, he went to the doctor. Naturally they told him that he had lost another three inches of his height, making him now foot nine from his original six foot three. Once more they had fully examined him to make sure that there was nothing wrong internally or externally. Again the doctor had reminded him to come for a checkup tomorrow, since it seemed that his speed of Shifting was a bit drastic like a few others had gone through in the past.
Surprisingly, there had been a little change in his hip bones as well. They were a bit wider than before. Not too much cause for concern after everything that was already happening to him, so when he had gone back home for the third day and tried to go through everything normally, he didn’t pay too much attention to it. Then came day four, when he shrunk once again and his gait changed once again. At the same time, the feathers that had spread across his arms were growing out, while his fingers had also shifted slightly, making him feel like they were going to fuse just like his toes had done before turning into talons.
At this point, all he wanted to do was go to sleep. The transformation ended up making Tyler very tired due to how much pain he went through. As soon as he fell onto the bed, he went into a deep slumber. Waking up later on the fourth day saw the feathers creeping up towards his neck. He had even lost another three inches of his height while he slept, which seemed to go to his hips, giving him quite the stride. Of course, nothing else had changed besides that, and the checkup again confirmed that his body was reacting positively to his Shift.
Afterwards, Tyler found himself going to the doctor a few more times. On the fifth day, he had feathers covering his whole body, and his winged arms were finally forming as well. For the sixth, his nose and lips transformed into a sturdy, greyish-blue beak, and his eyes became black as coal. Surprisingly, he felt that his vision was better than before, though it took a while to get used to the beak itself. When the seventh day came, not only did his wings form completely, but he also ended up getting a tail to top off his transformation.
With every new change also came a loss in height until he was a solid five feet in height. In the end, he was quite annoyed about it, but such couldn’t be helped. After a few more visits when he was fully transformed, he had been asked if he wanted to change back… but he couldn’t find himself wanting to, surprisingly. Especially when he first took flight, although the first few times had him crashing into things. When he ended up soaring into the sky, however… that feeling was one that he never wanted to be without.
Naturally he knew that his life had changed substantially now that he was a black-feathered bird. The cost of having wings for arms meant that he would need to work on things that he used to be able to do with ease. Losing over a foot in height could be worked around with him being able to pick himself up in the air too. Each and every day brought with him a new surprise.
With his Shift ended, Tyler found himself quite happy.

I definitely want to see more of this world. Mind if I commission a story in the setting with a bassarisk?
