Pursuit of Insignificance—by Nommz
Our magical abilities were different in some ways but alike in just as many. We bonded quickly over our ability to resize ourselves in particular, and so we could only wonder what would happen if we combined our talents. The fennec was much more learned than I at creating favorable conditions for such an act, and so I was merely an assistant in creating the ritual markings and arranging the props as shown in one of his books.
We sat inside and focused on the feeling of diminution as we would act it upon ourselves, and indeed the ritual seemed to be amplifying them. Even with our eyes closed in our meditative states, we knew the shrinking was intense. We were becoming shorter than our fennec and kobold selves… smaller than we were as children… tinier than housecats… and as we fell below the height of the candles and book we had used for the ritual, we mutually felt we could go further than we ever had before, perhaps diminishing to mere atomies or even lesser. We could feel not only each other's talents but the joy from each other's ambition propelling us to dwindle more.
For this to be our first time meeting… it was certainly the start of a lucrative friendship.
