Short Story: Kumo and the Voracious Dragon
Title: Shelter From The Cold
Kumo climbed down the large cliff face, his long, thin frame cold to the bone as the wild, chilling winds whipped right through him. His red eyes burned with fury, glowing a deep crimson as he stood, looking off into the distance. The soft, white snow chilled his feet paws, the cold darkness of the dusk being illuminated only by his fury, with not even his core keeping him warm any longer.
With tired, blurred eyes, he slipped into an exposed crevice along the face of a large cliff - enough for a dragon his size to squeeze through, but small enough that the shadows casted upon its inners would easily confuse it for simply being part of the wall. He crawled inside the crevice, it seemingly getting wider. He stopped, a faint yellow glow coming from the end of the cavernous path. He lifted his muzzle as a familiar smell filled his nose, and his thoughts snapped with rage.
He made it to the end of the path, looking down. Far, far below, were huge stone houses, lining a cavern filled to its brim with a hoard of gold and precious treasures that would make anyone's eyes glow with envy. The thick scent of treasures and riches made his mouth water. He saw dwarves, the few that weren't already asleep, going about their night. The few guards that were on duty sleeping at the posts, dozing in and out of consciousness. Below him stood the dwarven city of Yetskic, with him somehow finding a way to bypass the city's otherwise impenetrable gates. They thought they were invulnerable.
Kumo grinned wickedly, saliva dripping from his jaws as he looked down at the sleeping city, a fiery warmth filling his belly.
They had no idea the pleasure he would gain from showing the invulnerable their place in the food chain.
