Who? If you're talking about the relationship between the locals and the outposters its quite the opposite, I think its been made quite clear the outpost has at least moderate reliance on the locals in one way or another for their own survival due to the failures and logistical inefficiencies of colonial management.
I may just be reading into this too much, but it feels like there is more at stake for this audit than, "we fail and don't get our supplies." The amount of anxiety and fear John expresses tells me there maybe more drastic consequences for failure than being cut off. And besides that, I don't see this being a kind of Stockholm situation, just the standard "this guy can end my future with a click of his pen" type of situation. Like a tax audit or a safety/health inspector.
Indeed, but what can the “powers that be” actually do? There has been no indication that the transformation process can be reversed. The researchers are stuck there, and the auditor has demonstrated how much the authority cares.
The Stockholm Syndrome idea comes from the thought that continuing to serve the authority is preferable to following Oli/hiker/Imua’s example.

Problem is, they're 'out' already. Once their usefulness has passed they will be left to fend for themselves. It might be because of this audit, it might happen when their research is considered complete. I don't get the feeling they're getting a very good retirement package.
I think you don’t know what Stockholm Syndrome is, as this base completely cut off from all contact with seac with exception it provides supplies needed for base and for staff of researchers security and repairs as other than that does little to hinder their actions as simple want outpost to conduct it research which why they mainly left to their own devices.
Speaking of Oli/hiker/Imua her case was she was scout sent out to explore dragonscape as she no other option but to live without seac help.

The Stockholm Syndrome was formed from childhood, the researchers grew up in an abusive relationship with SEAC, then SEAC sent them to Dragonscape to abuse them from a distance. Then instead of saying "fuck you slits," stealing everything they can transport, and and making themselves scarce they remain in the abusive relationship.
Oooh, the dots finally got connected.
Stay cool, Jonny! Just get them through this, and then you have two days to beat feet and make tracks. It will be such a tragic loss! More SEAC personnel lost to barbaric hedonism! Oh so dreadful, but dreadful from a loooong way away from the facility.

Why do I get the feeling the lab originally was going be built with borders only for something like earthquake to strike and create sink hole where lab going be making so they had either building base inside preassigned borders but risk samples getting destroyed due trip it would take or build beyond preassigned border in order ensure samples get to lab in mint condition.
