Britten-Norman gleaming,
Forty years of flight,
Helped to keep me dreaming!
Aurigny Air Services - Guernsey's Airline - became the first commercial operator of the Britten-Norman Trislander in 1971. Developed from the twin-engined Britten-Norman Islander in the 1960s, it was intended to increase passenger capacity and range while retaining the ability to perform short take-off and landing (STOL) operations. For Aurigny, the aircraft was perfect for its short-haul routes from Guernsey in the Channel Islands to destinations in the south of England and the north of France, the primary destinations of the island's residents. Aurigny was the largest operator of Trislanders, operating 16 of the type at its peak out of a total of 80 produced, before withdrawing the aircraft from its fleet in 2014. The Trislander is still in operation, however, primarily in the Caribbean where runways can be very short.
This particular model is on open-air display at the Imperial War Museum at Duxford, in Cambridgeshire. Behind it is the tail of a Bristol Britannia.
Hope you enjoy!

Hey a Tri-islander! There were two Islanders and a Tri-islander that was based in my area back in the 60s till the 90s. I understand from the pilots they were great for short-haul work from San Juans to Seattle, Everett and Bellingham... with excursions to Victoria and Vancouver, British Columbia.
