Luna chooses Mira, public :( , Luna chooses Leo, public <:I, Luna chooses Chilli, public >:(, Luna choseso Tristan and Nigel, public >:O, this is just my guess on things, in regards to how the general public in attendance of the ceromany reacts, to Luna's decision.
All jokes aside, it is admitted entertaining to see the happiness on Mira's face when made aware of Luna's decision to lead Knights, though I'm also pretty sure, she doesn't quite understand what this role requires of her, either way I don't think this huge grin on her face is going to last long, considering I'm sure the general public will simply accuse her position as favouritism on Luna's part. That said, I think we can all agree that what Luna told the guards, isn't something that the attendees, and especially the other cast will members will take lightly.
As for Leo's commment on Miralle. Not to take sides here, but he does actually make a good point, in regards to Miralles smooth sailing, in that it can't really be denied that Mira very likely had the easiest time in regards to many things in her life, in comparison to everyone else, and by some extension Chillin, considering who had adopted her. Either way I am very excited what the reactions will be when the others are chosen. Also I can't help but feel that despite Leo's accomplishments, he isn't only well disliked by Miralle and Chilli, though to be fair his animosity towards Miralle, seems to stem from jealousy, but several others as well. He seems to be the kind of guy, were he's talented, but his personality leaves a lot to be desired.

Well his main motivation is taking revenge for his mother so no need to be a faceman when you just focus on training to smash skulls, that Miralle was chosen as Leader will backfire so hard, the first thing she will do is rub it under Leos nose and when Nigel is on the stage she will certainly start a hissy fit against the blind boi. probably even mocking him for being blind as a "well deserved punishment".
If Luna really is bringing Tristan on the Stage for promotion him to knight i bet that we will have a lot to say, there is so much anger and hate i him i doubt that he will turn a new leaf just by being knighted.
I mean what was even the point to refuse him as a child when she now gives him the prestige class of a knight. I get that she needs the meat shields now more then ever for the fight against the chaos horde but still... Gods are weird man :P

Was going to reply about the mix up you made, but GBirkin said it for me ^_^;
As for Leo, from what I gather he's been using his mother's unfortunate fate as a main drive, but for all intents and purposes, his goal does firmly seem to be his desire to become the best Guardian to grace the lands, and he doesn't seem to really care, or have any interest in making friends, or having companions that he can rely on. His personality does leave a lot to be desired by his contempt for Miralle is understandable considering everything we know. As for Miralle, I don't think she even realises just how differently people view her, because of the good fortune she's had at being adopted by Luna.

I think Leo will be chosen and be under Miralle. It makes a good story. She dislikes him because he is too gruff and he dislikes her for not being disciplined. This means they can help each other become better. I'm sure Leo might balk at her leadership, even challenging it at times but in the end I think it will all work out as they fight the forces of the Dark.
Also add to the fact that she picked her own daughter to be the head knight. That can cause problems. After all in Leo's mind, Mir has never had to "work for anything" it was all handed to her. So I can see where this could cause some tension.
I'm hoping Leo will be under her. It will make for a better story. As for Nigel and Trist, that has been foreshadowed for a while now.

The way I understand it from the story, the Knights are all equals with the exception of their Leader. It doesn't seem like Luna to create a group of defenders with a strict hierarchy or rank structure. Of course, with Mira being the leader, Leo will definitely be - at least officially - 'underneath' Mira, but so will all the other Knights equally. This doesn't mean that they won't figure out some sort of pecking order amongst themselves over time, but at least in Luna's eyes, they are all equals with Mira being their Leader.
To be fair Miralle works really hard for making her unlikable, she acts like a spoiled summer child, we don't see much of her life growing up only how she interacts with some o the cast as a child and now in her late teens/adulthood. I get why Leo dislikes her, his mother was taken from him, his father is a broken man and his goal is to be strong to protect everyone, so he goes into training to be a great warrior. At the same time he gets mocked from a girl that he is a "party pooper" and a joy kill for not fawning over Miralle, i would bet she even doesn't know anything about Leo beside that he is a "muscle head".
His goal is revenge. And he’s ashamed of his father; supposedly for not avenging his late wife’s death. This is just speculation but I suspect he ran away from fighting the one who killed her. His reasoning would be so he could raise Leo but the other guardians branded him a coward and disgraced him which lead to Leo losing respect for his father and determined to succeed where he failed “even if it costs me my life” he said. That’s my theory.
Given how we saw his father. Sitting in a chair, staring simply into the distance and only tearing up when his wife was mentioned. It's very likely that he is broken by her death to the point of being really unable to care for himself or others, just getting through life with nothing on his mind but the terror he's saw and the deaths on his mind. Maybe able to keep up a life, but not much else.
I would say he's a stick in the mud and stuck up kind of asshole. Assholes come in all shapes and sizes.

Impossible. Nigel has to be the good boy who dindu nuffin. Definitely isn't a victim of his own angst and rage. Has to be all Luna's fault, the tyrannical oppressor who just wants to hurt poor Nigel continually for no good reason. She obviously failed to lightning bolt his parents and raise him herself in spite of his clear and definitely-unquestionably-justified hatred and vitriol toward Luna.

I wonder if powers have something to deal with the Tree's choices. Miralle has her flames that eat away at the darkness.
If that is a unsaid deciding factor, then Nigel is defently going to be on this team, whether he likes it or not. Or his team mates for that matter, if powers have a wait in all this.

I don't see Miralle leading. No way given her personality. I really am curious how this ceremony is going to play out because I feel like no one's going to be happy by the end of this especially given the hints about the Goddess crying in the kitchen so let's see where this goes.
You are right, but we are in a story.
Through the prism of a story, this is what I see: The Knights are not chosen because they already are the best at their role, but with their potential and the lesson they will have to learn. With this in mind, Miralle will have to learn to become a real leader. Curious to see what will be the defects/potential of the others.

Regarding what Leo said to Mira in the first panel, plus the fact of how she is in general, I would say that he has a point in his favor. Regarding Luna's choice as first Knight, I must say that it was almost obvious that it was going to happen, even more taking into account that Mira has skill magic capable of fighting Chaos; the problem is in how the second one will manage to carry out her job as leader, which will result in something quite interesting to see. And as for the crowd, I'm very curious to know how they will react after Luna's designation of the first Knight, especially Leo; the next page is going to be very interesting indeed.
Honestly out out of all the choices there was I'm glad it was her, she may be a bit of a strange choice but she also could greatly grow from this opportunity since reaching a goal means to maintain it and that might help her grow in a beneficial way to her character, she'll need strong supports which I'm hoping will be the people beside her but maybe it'll be a shocker like the current prisoners :0
Even if he gets mad a picks at her she could in some way benefit from it, learning to ignore it or learning to shape more into someone capable of going forward with growth to be a more confident leader that Leo could respect or at least tolerate- her head strong nature could make her particularly capable even! Mind you that's just me hoping for the best outcome possible really, it could be a pending train wreck xD
I can see several things happening here. Leo and Mir both don't like each other. Mir thinks Leo is an emotionless person who has no capacity to care about anything else but being a knight. Leo thinks Mir is an undisciplined whelp who has been given everything to her without having to work for it and now, her mother has made her the lead Knight. This can only increase tensions, especially if Leo is chosen as a Knight and will serve under Mir, which I'm assuming is going to happen.
In this, I think there will be immense pressure and tension between the two as Mir probably doesn't fully comprehend EVERYTHING that is required of a leader and Leo may pick at any weakness he sees, but in the end, against the forces of the Dark, I think both can learn something from the other and together they can find common ground and work together. Remember they were once very close childhood friends.
Nigel and Trist, I believe will also become Knights. This has been foreshadowed for a while now that bigger things await both of them. They will both get the chance so better themselves and do something that benefits everyone. My only worry is I don't think all of them are going to end up surviving in the end. This includes Mom who I think will be among the first to sacrifice herself.

So we are quickly coming the the point of this story that is the culmination of everything before it.
Mira - chosen at birth by Luna. Her unique abilities to defeat Chaos are at the forefront of the story, as shown from the very beginning. Her parents, her lineage and the abilities in her very own blood have brought her to this point. She is the leader and while maybe not the smartest, she has the potential to be the wisest. Think Star-lord in Guardians of the Galaxy.
Chili - One with the capacity of giving and caring for others, tho she can be reckless at times. Luna saw Chili as a good-hearted soul with the potential of becoming a great healer or perhaps something different. For this party, I think she can be our healer.
Leo - Disciplined. His commitment to being a guardian is undeniable, tho his reasons may not be the most noble. He desires to protect people but his overwhelming driving force is to avenge his mother's death. He is the strongest of the bunch. Our tank.
Tristan - A sly, nimble and quick. While not the best thief, the boy has talents. While never striving to become a guardian, he was identified early in his life by the Tree of life, who saw the purity of his soul, a trait that is equally as important to a Knight as strength. Our rogue.
Nigel - Raised to become a guardian for all the wrong reasons by parents who abandoned him the moment he didn't live up to their expectations. The one who has had arguably the roughest road out of all of them and the one with the story arc that has the potential for the greatest redemption. The Tree of Life saw something within him and probably knew almost immediately of his potential and importance to defeating the darkness that she knew was coming. In good story telling, sometimes a character needs to suffer and lose just about everything before they can realize that they can become something better. Nigel has certainly suffered. The question is what will he see when his vision is restored? What will his role be? DPS? Support? Main? Saviour of everything? We'll have to see.
Five is the number of sashes, so these are the five I think are going to be chosen. Will there be strife amongst those who are to become Knights of Life? Absolutely, but the best stories are the ones with character conflict and the ability of those characters to overcome their feelings and differences from each other in order to defeat a greater enemy. Overall if this was a D&D party, it is a pretty solid group.

I'd like to rebut one part of this: Nigel's parents didn't necessarily abandon him. His situation is much more complex. Yes, his parents failed him and failed to teach him anything once his situation was outside the scope of their expectations, but Nigel also failed to question or interrogate or even lash out at his parents, at least in the same way he did with Luna. As far as we're shown, Nigel just continued to do the same thing as before his rejection by Luna while expecting things to change (thanks Vas). We're never shown him confronting his parents about their shitty behavior (just, 'hey, look at the cool thing I did!' with a cold and dispassionate dismissal in response). Instead, Nigel chose to suffer in silence while his parents stubbornly insisted on giving him the silent treatment, up until his house-trashing tantrum and prompt departure. Some have argued that he was thrown out, but the impression the comic gave me was one of Nigel being so destructive as to give them no choice but to toss him out - almost as if he wanted to run away but wanted to feel vindicated in doing so.
This is further compounded by Nigel refusing to listen to Luna when he confronted her and shifted all the blame his parents deserved onto Luna. He even outright admits in narration that all he wanted to do was to vent his rage at her - not to seek correction or comfort or retribution. Even since then, it's apparent that he hasn't spent any effort in self-examination or self-criticism. To him, he is right and the entire world is wrong for failing to see his obvious and irrefutable excellence.
To summarize, much of Nigel's suffering is self-inflicted through sheer stubborn vanity.
Also, it's pretty explicitly shown that Nigel is to be the Seer/Oracle of the group with visions of the future and whatnot (that he dismisses as nightmares) - ironic since he is, at least at present, physically blind.

Oh I'm not suggesting that Nigel is a complete victim and is blameless. While it is true that his parents pretty much abandoned him when it comes to love and attention. I'm fairly certain they didn't throw him out of the house but they did stop being supportive and attentive.
Nigel has his own issues. He blames his circumstances on the Tree of Life and has refused to let that hatred and despair go, despite the suggestions and guidance he was offered by the Tree of Life. An extra year was all he needed to wait and look inside of himself, but he couldn't move past being rejected, first by the Tree of Life and then by his family. Nigel has some growing up to do and the Tree of Life is now offering him that tough love.

Are you seriously putting all the blame on a freaking 10yr-old? You know his parents were adults right?
I lived in an abusive household at that age. You're powerless when your parents don't want to acknowledge you. He probably did question and confront them, know what they probably did?
Ignored him<
Yeah he's a little shit right now. But actively putting every ounce of blame on an abused and neglected child is seriously messed up when it's very clearly the adults that were 1010% in the wrong.

Nope - if you assume my statement implies that I am "putting all the blame" on a ten-year-old, you misread and/or misinterpreted my statement (or are willfully misrepresenting it). This is a mutual breakdown, a situation where both sides in this are at fault (not equally by any measure), his parents being stubborn and self-assured and Nigel being similarly stubborn and self-assured. His parents certainly failed in their duty to teach and educate and raise young Nigel, but Nigel failed to communicate that his needs weren't being met (in the simple and often-emotional manners that children often do*) prior to him choosing to let it all break at once and shift the blame for his parents' failures and abuses onto Luna.
*I did this when I was young and was often punished in the moment for talking back or yelling, but many times it at least made my parents think and they often came around, eventually - weeks or even months later in some cases. You are not the only person in the world who lived in an abusive household growing up, so don't act like you're some kind of moral authority on the subject or that your situation is universally applicable to everyone, real or fictional.
Calling children powerless, even in the context of this story, is one-sided and foolish: obviously, Nigel had some power and chose to exercise it by trashing his home and either abandoning it or forcing himself to be evicted. The parent-child relationship is certainly biased in favor of parental power - a bias that lessens with age - but all but the youngest children are truly and completely blameless for their own actions. Would you really blame the parents if, say, a ten-year-old set off an explosive in a public space, killing their own parents and others in the process?
If Vik wanted to convey that he was confrontational with them, she would have shown that or had Nigel narrate that at the very least. It's reasonable to speculate about certain aspects of what we're shown - to draw inferences or extrapolate - but it'd be a tremendous effort for marginal benefit for an author to explain every little detail or pre-empt wild theories. Even so, Nigel's childhood arc was pivotal to his portrayal later on, and I feel like Vik would address a detail like that. Everything we're shown about Nigel post-rejection is a quiet suffering-in-silence and merely seeking approval, a return to good graces, by continuing to pour effort into the same activities he was praised for prior to his rejection - never questioning his parents directly, never demanding attention, never seeking understanding, always shyly obeying when they were, quite calmly, dismissive of him. None of this justifies their actions. They were, unquestionably, absolute jerkasses to Nigel and definitely caused him to withdraw from them and from others. But Nigel is also, in part, to blame for his own suffering, and his suffering is increasingly his own fault - a product of his own beliefs and decisions - as time passes; stubbornly believing that he has never done anything wrong or erred in any way, never engaging in self-reflection or self-criticism, always blaming others for his hardships, actively avoiding Toby and any sort of brotherly reconciliation, continuing to misdirect blame at Luna and the rest of the world, and refusing to listen to reason even now.
Before you even start, this is also not a justification for Luna striking him blind. I'm sure, in the story, she sees it as an unpleasant necessity, but I'm not very happy about it either. From a story perspective, I think it makes for an interesting character development point, but it is not something I would be comfortable seeing a real person go through and would probably fight Luna on.

To add my thoughts on this:
I wouldn't necessarily refer to Miralle as a chosen one, more she was someone that happened to have been brought into very favourable circumstances, because of Luna's choice to look after her instead of giving her away, likes she's done to many others. Yes her powers have been referred to have been very unique, revered, and incredibly useful when it came to combating the chaos, as well as the fact she's been named the leader of the group, but I wouldn't say that because of that, she's at the forefront of the story. Especially when you consider that other characters personal journeys seem to have more weight to them, which I'll get into, instead of focusing on the "I need to learn how to be a better leader so I can be a better chosen for everyone". She feels more like Terra from Final Fantasy 6, someone who has their own story, their lessons to learn, and has a fair share of importance, but isn't the focus.
I can definitely agree that Chilli is surely looking to be the most compassionate of the group, but unfortunately I don't think that's the case, and by that I don't mean she doesn't have compassionate for others, but more she isn't the most compassionate one there, and she has own inner turmoil's that she has to deal with as well, which I think can get in the way of that, the major one being her mood swings. Healer, maybe, though personally I don't think she'll be a healer, despite that being the obvious pick here, she was shown to not be very good at it, and yes while she could improve in that department over time, I sincerely believe she going to branch of into something else.
Leo, a tank is definitely not the word I'd use to describe him, considering team player doesn't seem to be something that he's well versed in, or more he's not interested in that unless he needs too do it out of duty to the Tree, from what we've been shown, he's a lone warrior, trains by himself, looks out for himself, wants to be the best Guardian to have ever lived etc... you get the idea. Honestly this guys commitment to the role, seems to actually be quite a major issue, considering he doesn't really seem to think of anything else aside from, being the best, and proving himself. Of course there's also the fact we were shown in earlier pages that he doesn't exactly have very fond opinions of Miralle, due to how fortunate her life has been because the Tree adopted her, which admittedly he can't be blamed for that, of course that doesn't mean he should deny her efforts either.
Of course, now comes the last two, Tristan and Nigel. These two are the biggest enigma's here, because it's really hard to determine where exactly their paths will lead them, in addition to the fact that they both gone through similar experiences, while also having gone through completely different experiences to one another. You say Nigel may very well have the roughest road, but evidence points towards Tristan having that, considering he literally has no sense of identity, no sense of self worth, and unlike Nigel never had family to begin with. Even if it wasn't for the right reasons, at least Nigel had those things. Of course, a multitude of bad decisions, and choices from both sides, Nigel, his parents, and Luna, caused Nigel to end up the way he did, but even then, despite what he's going through now, his brother Toby still genuine loves him, and wants him to be okay. Tristan has, none of that. No family, no friends, no home, no identity, and no self worth, he literally has nothing, a blank slate, and yet he's shown to be the most compassionate one of the group, despite the utter wreck that was his life, while essentially being forced into a life of crime, and is someone that despite all of that, apparently represents the best qualities of the Guardians, while also being the only one of the group to have no such desire to be one. It really does make you think about what Luna saw in him specifically, cause unlike Nigel with his seer like abilities, we don't actually know what Tristan is truly capable of, and that's not get into the fact unlike the other four, he met Luna by chance.
Both of these guys have A LOT that they're going to have to deal with, that they're going to have to learn, that they're going to have to overcome, that they're going to have too discover about themselves, and have a very long road ahead of them. Their polar opposites to one another, yet are also frighteningly similar in other ways. They've both suffered, both have gone through the wringer because of bad decisions, and both of them are looking to have the greatest arcs out of the group.
I hope Miralle soon feels the burdens of leadership. I look forward to her realizing the sword of Damocles' is over her head.
I also look forward to seeing Miralle and chili's easy life end. They are about to lose the direct support of their god.
After all Viktria did say her gift will be the ultimate weapon in the beginning, as in it will not be enough.
