This Monday I got told wearing my Kufeyeh (the Palestinian scarf you may have seen in protests and in this piece) made 1 or 2 people 'feel unsafe and uncomfortable' at work. These people conflate being Arab with being some sort of extremist. Unlike them I do not conflate Judaism with Apartheid and occupation, so this was confounding and upsetting. If a piece of fabric symbolizing a people that is currently being wiped out makes you uncomfortable, maybe it's time to have some introspection and self reflection.
I have not stopped wearing it. I will not hide who I am, nor my Palestinian roots.

Heyo! You didn't come off mean at all its a fair question! Yes the general term of Kufeyeh/Hattah (and other names I dont recall right now) refer to the light fabric worn as a scarf, headress, shawl etc by many arabs. The patterns and colours tend to be very area specific! The one in the attached image is very iconic of Palestine with the different lines symbolozing trade routes, olive branches, and fishing nets.
While I have Palestinian roots I grew up in Jordan which has a more checkered appearance and uses red and white fabric instead of black and white.

Kufeyeh is *specifically* a Palestinian variation, Wearing it is common in protests. The fact one starts to put a Kufeyeh in the middle of a war started by an internationally recognized terrorist organization is unethical. It's not too different than a person putting a shirt that says "Wipe out all Palestinians!" but I bet it's never even happened since Israel supporters only want Hamas gone, And guess what? Most Palestinian citizens do too. This conflict is complicated and the western world likes to distort it's view. (Also no I'm absolutely not supporting the deaths of innocent civilians if you think I do, Go ahead and read my recent post if you wish to know more about where I stand in this)
In short no one is being racist. People are genuinely afraid for their safety because the pro Palestinian side abroad is usually violent, It's no secret

I appreciate your stance on this and first and foremost we all have to be human and call for an end to senseless violence and brutality on either side. What Hamas did on Oct 7th was deplorable and was used as an excuse for the following month of violence and brutality.
However, this did not happen in a vacuum. I implore you to look into the history of the region, this has been 75 years of illegal occupation and apartheid. Over 250 Palestinians were killed in 2023 alone by Israeli hands before October 7th and now an active genocide is happening. This isn't balanced, one side is receiving far more financial and military support than the other who is currently facing a 99.6% civilian death rate.
True Palestinians aren't calling for death to Jews, but they are standing with non-Israeli Jewish people around the world calling for an end to the oppression and Apartheid. That's what needs to stop. And until Palestinians are recognized as free and equal footed citizens, the cycle of hate and violence will continue.
Israeli ministers are currently calling for Nakba 2.0 even though up until now they never even acknowledged the Nakba (1948 illegal and forced evacuation of 750,000 Palestinians from their homes) and are justifying killing children and premature BABIES saying that they will just grow up to be Hamas anyway.
So yes, I sincerely thank you for not calling for innocent death, it means you have a rational and humane side, but please use both of those to research this further. I am also happy to talk in private about this further in an open and calm way to highlight what has been happening prior, up to, and throughout the current events. Thank you for speaking on it!

I'd like to see a source for the "99.6% civilian death rate", As the Israeli government is one of the few in the world that minimize casualties heavily because of political stress. What's going on here in this war is that the Israeli government issued a very disproportionate attack in numbers, In attempts to finally rid of Hamas once and for always - Those who kill more Palestinians than Israel does in their wars and silence them and subject them to a dictatorship in modern times. As much as unfortunate it is that many people die, It's partially naive to think that wars are proportionate. Regardless of wars being disproportionate they are simply bad.
"True Palestinians aren't calling for death to Jews" - True, They commit to the Palestinian cause but it's been mostly taken by extremist groups
"And until Palestinians are recognized as free and equal footed citizens, the cycle of hate and violence will continue." - As a peace supporter, I myself agree. But guess who doesn't agree? Palestine themselves. They rejected peace offers 3 times at this point.
No one from the officials is calling for a second Nakba, Must be some pro Israel extremists (Which I also heavily hate). Also the people justifying the killings of babies are extremists too, Not anyone from the government. I've seen people cheer for Hamas's attack on the 7th of October too, Cheering for any death is inhumane and those people disgust me to the core. The only political officials who did so so far are some few middle east governments.
About the last paragraph, No problem. Also I'm very educated from both the Israeli and Palestinian narrative. Are you familiar with the Israeli narrative? And you seem like the type to be rational too from the first sentence but I do urge of you to respect your coworkers' requests - Some people are paranoid in these hard times. Imagine if some pro Israeli person went with something used against Palestine in protests to work while some of the coworkers are arab minorities, I'm sure they'll genuinely and reasonably too feel scared.
Unfortunately I can barely discuss the matter at the moment because of my mental state, I just felt like commenting on this, Not because I find your opinion triggering - But because I find that people feeling unsafe is not good. It's never good anywhere no matter the circumstances and the excuses given. Do what you want, I can't force you. Sorry for being a tad bit disrespectful on a different platform

First of all I respect your mental state and I do not want to aggravate it further so I will keep my responses short and to the point and should you wish to discuss more in person and in private I am happy to do so.
Firstly, regarding the numbers; Israel announced 400 Hamas members have been eliminated but the Palestinian death count in total since Oct 7 is in 5 digits. Hence the percentage. For simplicity, assuming this is just out of the 10,000 killed in the past month, this is a 96% death rate. The 99.6% factors in the deaths prior to this date. A UN source shows that JUST from 2008 to 2023 (prior to Oct 7) 21x the number of Palestinians have been killed (again stressing what we are both stressing that no civilian death is worth it, but the imbalance is staggering) https://www.ochaopt.org/data/casualties
CNN does a break down too https://www.cnn.com/2023/11/07/midd.....-dg/index.html
Some of your comments are conflating Hamas with Palestinians otherwise, such as the call for peace, the same reason why I will continue wearing my cultural scarf because it is Palestinian, not terror related. Additionally Hamas has offered the release of hostages multiple times to which Netanyahu denied https://www.theguardian.com/world/2.....za-sources-say
Government representatives talking about the Nakba: https://twitter.com/hahauenstein/st.....41134221869453
I am also not sure what you mean by 'committing to the Palestinian cause' other than that they want to live as free citizens and not treated as war criminals for simply existing?
But yes, again we agree civilian deaths should be avoided at all costs but if I cant convince you with sourced numbers I am not sure what else I can share to show that since the horrendous attacks on Oct 7 this has become a one-sided genocide, ethnic cleansing, and forced eviction.
I think for now we have both said enough, I am glad that the takeway fromt his at least is that neither of us want to side for extremists or call for more death, and should you wish to talk further I look forward to that discussion.

Interesting fact Dunkin' Donuts had a commercial (2007) the featured Rachel ray She was wearing a kaffiyeh. The commercial was pulled
When people (Michelle Malkin) started to complain that ad offers symbolic support for Muslim extremism and terrorism. When in reality I was just Rachel ray drinking a Ice coffee in front of a cherry blossom tree wearing a kaffiyeh scarf.
It's always important to remember to be proud of who you are.

Solidarity, sir. Also, ignore those "soft" genocide-enablers trying to silence your people's self expression. In a world where victims of internationally-recognized war crimes are purposedly refered to as "terrorists" to legitimate their mass-killing, showing any signs of support will never come without reprehension by so-called "educated levelheadeds". One day Palestine will be free from Hamas and, foremost, from Zionism π΅πΈπ΅πΈπ΅πΈ
Thank you for posting this and sharing your story!
And thank you for taking time out of your day to try to educate that user in a non-aggressive manner. They also commented on my post with some... less-than-accurate claims β but I didn't reply, because I feel like I'm not well-versed enough on the subject to discuss it in a way that might change someone's mind? I just hoped they were just someone who's fallen prey to propaganda, and that they could still have their eyes opened.
May you never have to hide who you are! πβ€οΈπ€π€π

I was legitimately hoping to have an open discourse about it with them, but here and more so on twitter they seem to just be hunting down pro-palestinian posts, marking themselves as some kind of saint for not wanting deaths (the bare minimum to be human), calling Arabs violent, then when presented with info otherwise to their pro-israel claims they remain silent or say 'well Im educated and youre not'.
I seriously wouldnt worry about them unless they want to have a calm open discussion and not just spread hate for hate's sake.

The idea that some FA users are clicking on the search bar, typing in "Palestine," and then condemning others for not supporting genocide β or saying that's not what Israel is actively doing β is wild to me. "I'm very educated," but then making claims that are easily disproved by a quick search? I just want to implore them to actually do some research and watch some documentaries. Your feelings and loyalty to your country are understandable, but they are not facts about the situation.
But the fact that they went out of their way to bother you on not one but two platforms... woof.
