So this is Affamato (Affamata when in female form), my streaming goblin ^^ he's the one who reads TTS for my streams, and he is uh...
well he's not well trained. To put it lightly.
... Still cute though.
Lore drop:
In my setting, Goblins are a man-made species originally intended for servitude. They were designed to only be as intelligent as nessicary to complete whatever task they were assigned to, however, they were also designed to consciously change and adapt to their environment and designated tasks. So a goblin who spends a year as a research assistant would be leagues more intelligent than another goblin who spent the same year doing manual labor, to the point that it's almost ridiculous. That lab assistant goblin will only be as strong as they need to haul books around though, whereas the physical labor goblin could come close to and maybe even surpass human laborers in strength. Sooooo a goblin like Affamato, who spends his time around someone in politics, might find himself becoming pretty clever indeed.
Once most of humanity was wiped out in The Consumption, Goblins found themselves to be basically the dominant species on earth, and went on to colonize many of the empty and ruined cities. their bodies would change to suit their surroundings quickly. Ones that lived at the tops of old world skyscrapers would develop hollow bones and feathers to keep themselves warm. Ones that lived underground would develop darker complexions and low-light-vision.
Goblins are also gender-fluid as a species, able to fully change their gender and physical sex in a matter of months in response to societal and reproductive pressures, though exposure to certain chemicals and a surplus of calories can make this process go faster.
Unfortunately, due to the nature of goblin's adaptability, their societies don't typically advance very far or get very large. Their abilities and personalities tend to homogenize over time when in a group, which usually results in a population of jacks-of-all-trades, masters of none. A goblin with exceptional leadership skills may join a goblin tribe and lead it well for a time, but eventually they will lose those skills as they spend more and more time around their fellows that lack them.
When integrating with Humans and Recolo civilizations, Goblins tend to find themselves as laborers, with a more social side that makes them much more companionable, though they can be "adopted" by individual humans/recolo, which often ends up having a much bigger impact on their resulting personality.
In recent years, an alchemical solution was invented that allows a goblin to "lock in" their personality and skillset, effectively removing their adaptability. The ethics of it's use are highly debated, as many goblins lack the awareness to be able to make such a decision for themselves, and many others see it as an affront to the goblin's nature to make them "more human." Who says that being human is the "right" way to exist anyway?
