Cody's Submerged Treasure Hunt (+Micro Story!)
So there Cody was, standing on the docks looking onto the sea. The sunlight reflecting its yellow glow onto the teenage lycanthrope fellow as today was very hot, not only perfect for a swim but also perfect for a treasure dive and hunt.
For today, he prepared himself as he looked at a heavy rock his paws were holding. The rock was held by a long rope that's tied to both his feet separately in each end of it. This rock allows him to sink further, however he has to untie them once he reaches the bottom. Luckily, he has a strap tied to his leg with a scuba knife equipped.
All of that mmight seem like a very dangerous stunt to most non-aquatic furs. To Cody however, this was no issue for him as he smiled slighty, and infact nofur had ever done this before.
The brown-colored werewolf took a deep breath as he took a step back and then ran with rock in hand as he jumped, letting go of the rock that's tied to his feet and splashing into the sea. A large swarm of small bubbles covered his entire fur coat as he sank down further while breathholding, his hair and black cape drifting and flowing around as if he were in deep space.
As soon as he fell into the water, he clutched his sun pedant necklace, turning it into a crescent moon and beginning his aquatic transformation. He stopped holding his breath as gills opened on his fluffy chest and neck, although letting some infinite bubbles out from his mouth and snout as the bubble sacks formed inside the lungs. Fish-like fins were growing around himself along with his tail having transparent ones.
Another fin, this time reminiscent of a dolphin, also grew on his back. Otter-like membrabe or webbing were growing on all his four paws and armpit, allowing him to glide and steer himself underwater.
Finally, the transformation was completed as his paw feet started to flop, they elongated along with his toes, which were merging with the webbing as they flattened, sprouting himself some flexible flippers.
After some sinking later, The rock Cody was tied to hitted the sandy floor as he landed on it second with his flippery paws, crouching while raising his arms. He looked around the seascape around him, coral and fish residing there peacefully. The temperature had been adjusted for Cody to be as lukewarm as possible.
The now aquatic wolf took out his scuba knife from the leg strap as he proceeded to cut the rope that were tying his flippers. His fins for feet managed to free themselves from the rope as Cody then hopped off the rock and started swimming around the sea towards some random hidden treasure waiting to be found, kicking his extremely flexible webbed paws and fish tail altogether like a dolphin or merwolf.
Cody explored around the sea underwater, looking for treasure to find while a school of fish followed him like he was one of them. Cody smiled a little as he took a can of fish food from his leather bag, poured it onto his webbed paws and fed the fishes as they surround him like curious pets. After that, Cody continued on swimming, passing through an forest of kelp without trying to get tangled by them.
Throughout the journey, Cody almost forgot that there was still leftover cut rope on his flippers. The fish-wolf sat on the sandy floor and untied them, leaving the leftover rope behind as he hopped off and kicked his flippery feet altogether once again.
That's when Cody spotted something wooden near two rocks, peeking his curiosity as his kicked his flattened paw fins faster. The object was a sunken box, a treasure chest for sure. Cody then got excited as the happy wolf creature spewed out a lot of bubbles from his snout and mouth, sitting on his bowed knees as he picked the treasure chest with his webbed furry paws. All that swimming and searching really had payed off.
Cody hovered off a little from the ground. He opened the treasure chest in curiosity, hoping it wasn't yet another faux treasure chest. And to his surprise, there was lovely gold inside! Jewelry, coins, etc, their shimmery glow shining around the chest. Cody was so excitedly happy that he let out a lot of huge bubbles escape from his muzzle as he flapped his fins, ears and tail. There were also fishes around him who are curious. The now happy aquatic werewolf looked up into the surface, ripples waving through the water, he felt that it was now time to emerge from the sea and back to his homeland.
So, Cody closed the treasure chest to make sure no gold escapes as he goes back to flipper feet and fish tail kicking, launching himself towards the surface with the chest. While resurfacing, the bubbles escaped even more through his muzzle as they form an bubble respirator around it, he doesn't mind as it doesn't really affect his underwater breathing. Cody managed to splash back into the surface, leaning himself like a merwolf and taking a gasp of fresh air. He saw the beach as he swam towards it, his head peeking out like a dog on water.
When Cody reached the beach, he stood up and puts down the treasure chest as he dried his own fur by shaking around like a dog after a bath. He clutched his necklace again as it turned back into a sun. He then turned back into a regular wolf person as his fins and webbing regressed back into his own skin hidden beneath the fur, his gills closed themselves as his webbed flippers shrink back into just paws for feet, allowing himself to walk again without awkwardly wobbling on land.
Even though he now stinks after being in the water for quite a long time (as all canines do), he wondered what he could do with the treasure chest now that it was found (but first he has to get rid of the stench with deodorant he supposed).
Underwater art of Cody discovering a hidden treasure chest deep beneath the rippling waters of the sea. This is one of the first times I used shading (mostly for the background). This was also done for Mermay last year. Honestly, my personal favorite of the year (I liked the way I done it).
The short story was written by me to lean more into the aquatic vibes of the picture that I personally like.
Also the acorn was clearly a reference to Ice Age 4: Continental Drift (specifically the part where Scrat literally becomes a stick figure after taking a dive underwater just to retrieve an acorn that was actually the treasure map).
