I have seen three ruined motors from timing chain slap. As the chain slaps the cylinder, it erodes small bits of aluminum/ magnesium. These bits drop into the crankcase/ engine oil and are circulated by the oil pump to the cylinder head/ everywhere else.
On the 3 XR200's I owned (Bought used) every one of them had timing chain slap, and every one of them had bad main bearings, and destroyed camshaft/ cam bearings because of the timing chain slap.
Of course, because they were Hondas, they still ran.
If you replace the oil filter constantly, you can get away with it for a while, but eventually it will catch up.
Have you tried substituting a different kind of spring in the tensioner?
