They call it the "Heart Attack" approach into the old Kai Tak Airport in Hong Kong. The approach that I never got to experience as a passenger.
Procedure: Identify a red-and-white checkerboard that was mounted on the side of the hill, turn off the autopilot, bank the airplane towards the right 45 degrees, descend, search for the runway, and level your wings, all done when the plane is no more than 1000 feet above the ground. The height of the buildings had to be limited, otherwise the planes would crash into them when trying to land at the airport.
And this is the cockpit of a Boeing 747-400, a common sight at Kai Tak Airport, and what I flew when I finally went to Hong Kong.
