It is early morning and exciting things are happening in the cave in Åby. The dragon queen's egg is about to hatch. She has never experienced anything like this before and she is curious about the little ones that will soon emerge from the white large eggs that she laid the previous day. The male is still sleeping. The Dragon Queen wonders if she should wake him but she lets him sleep.
The bottom five eggs in the first nest begin to move. First, small cracks form in the shell and a transparent frothy liquid begins to flow out. The liquid smells good. Both the good smell and the fact that the liquid is transparent tell the dragon queen that the hatchlings are healthy. Sometimes the frothy liquid bubbles up when the baby dragons move.
The moving eggs were the first five laid by the female. After a while the cracks get bigger and the whole pile of eggs vibrates from the movements underneath. It makes an interesting sound when the hard shells move against each other. The dragon queen can hear tiny beeps from some of the eggs. The frequency is so high that a human cannot hear it but the dragon queen hears the sound.
Soon there is a loud crackling sound as the shell opens more and more. Small claws protrude from the cracks and they drag across the white shell, breaking the shell piece by piece. A long tail protrudes from an egg. The tail wags a few times but is mostly still. Some of the baby dragons grunt loudly while others beep. Some of the eggs swing against the others and form new cracks both on the egg that is swinging and on those that have not begun to crack.
The dragon queen watches intently as the bottom eggs continue to hatch and soon five baby dragons crawl out of the pile of eggs. They have bad balance and sometimes they fall over, but they quickly get back on all fours. Some of the baby dragons bump into each other but none of them get hurt. A baby dragon spreads its wings and flaps them. A little of the translucent liquid that were in the egg, splashes from the wings and hits some other newly hatched. The young dragons that get the liquid on them squirm to get the wet liquid off.
The baby dragons look up at their mother. They seem a little scared at first, but when the dragon queen comes closer and hums lovingly, they understand that they don't need to be afraid. All the baby dragons have very big and cute eyes. The dragon queen thinks they are very cute.
The five baby dragons have completely different colors than their parents. The hatched dragon cubs have the following colors: Beige, light yellow, yellow orange, black orange and silver. The baby dragons clumsily climb out of the nest and begin to investigate the cave. They don't go very far but stay close to the nest they came from. The dragon queen will feed the dragon babies when all the eggs have hatched. It´s easier that way.
Soon cracks form on 10 other eggs which are also quite far down in the nest. All the shells crackle as the ten baby dragons struggle to get out. The cracks get bigger every time the baby dragons press their bodies against the shell. Some of the ten baby dragons squeak while others grunt softly.
One of the eggs cracks with a loud noise. The baby dragon has cracked the shell with the help of its wings and they are fully raised. It looks very funny when the wet wings stick out from the egg. A few seconds later, the baby dragon tumbles out of the nest. It still has its wings outstretched. From another egg, a baby dragon's left foreleg and hind leg protrude from two large cracks. When the baby dragon moves its legs violently, the cracks soon get bigger and the baby dragon is freed from its shell. It soon tumbles out of the nest and looks around confused. What is this new place?
Another egg jumps around in the nest and it hits several others that haven't started to hatch yet. Cracks mostly form on the top and bottom of the jumping egg. After a few seconds, the top has come off and the baby dragon uses its front legs to get out of the egg.
Some baby dragons that have already hatched help others that are still in their eggs. Ten baby dragons soon crawl out of the nest. All have different colors. These have the colors: solid black, dark blue, red, light blue. grey, silver grey, beige, off-white, dark purple, and avocado green.
Some of the baby dragons are a little scared and hide when they see the dragon queen, while some others are completely fearless and climb onto the dragon queen's head and start walking around on her scaly head and back. After a while they jump down on the ground and run to the others who were a little scared at first. But they don't seem to be afraid anymore.
Soon five eggs begin to tremble and shake while cracks form on the shell. All five baby dragons squawk almost at the same time. The eggs have moved further down into the nest because the other eggs have hatched, but it doesn't matter. The dragon queen stands and watches as they hatch. A translucent liquid flows from all the eggs. Some of the baby dragons make holes in the eggs with their little claws. The claws scratch at the white shell that surrounds them. From an egg, a baby dragon is seen looking out at its new surroundings. It seems unsure if it really wants to go out into this new world it sees, but after a short while it starts to move and crack the egg more.
The cracks quickly get bigger and finally the shells come off in several places and five little dragon cubs tumble out into the nest. The baby dragons have bad balance in the beginning when they are hatched, but it soon improve. Some of the baby dragons stomp on each other's faces, but none of them seem upset about it.
All five have different colors. They are: Cerise, Yellow Grey, Dark Green, Brown and Sea Blue. None of them seem scared but climb out of the nest and onto the ground where the other baby dragons are. All the baby dragons sniff each other curiously. Some of the baby dragons yawn big. A few of the baby dragons accidentally bite each other, but as soon as the one who gets bitten whines, they stop biting each other. Two baby dragons sneeze. The light yellow dragon jumps up on the dragon queens head and back and investigate its mother but finally jumps down and wants to play with some of the baby dragons.
The dragon queen moves off to the next nest where she laid the next 20 eggs. All 20 eggs have just started to move and crack in slightly different places. Some of the baby dragons seem to be pushing hard on the top because the dragon queen can see the top rising on some of the eggs. Other baby dragons seem to push more towards the sides. Some shells have completely come off while others are still opening and coming off.
Some of the baby dragons are silent while others make noises as they hatch from their eggs. A baby dragon makes a sound similar to a dog barking. Some baby dragons are a little scared by the sudden and unexpected sound but soon tries to get out from their eggs.
When all the shells have loosened enough for the baby dragons to get out, the nest is full of baby dragons stepping on each other and they are looking for a way up. They move clumsily and sometimes fall but soon get back up on all fours. Some of them step on the heads of others to be able to get up easier and faster. So far, all the baby dragons are unsteady on their feet.
Some choose to go up to the front where the dragon queen is standing, while others take the back. Those who get up the back seem a bit worried and beep loudly. The dragon queen makes a kind noise and they turn and walk over to her.
The 20 baby dragons have many different colors: Light purple, black-red, pink, dark red, gray-brown, White, rainbow-colored, light green, black-brown. blue-red, white-pink, brown with white dots, yellow, cyan blue, violet with black small dots, gold, blue-green, bronze-colored, gray-blue and light turquoise.
The dragon queen moves off to the next nest where she laid the next 20 eggs. All the eggs have begun to tremble and shake. The clear liquid pours out from all 20 eggs and soon the cracks have become so big that the wet baby dragons can be seen moving inside the eggs. Some of them open their eggs with the small claws they have on their front feet and some manage to make holes with their tails. It looks funny when the tail sticks out from the eggs. When the baby dragon moves its tail, the cracks soon get bigger and eventually the baby dragon can come out of its egg.
Several cracking sounds are heard and the shells of some of the eggs rise with each cracking sound. Finally, the top of the shell comes off and the heads of the baby dragons can be seen inside. They stand up and step out of the shell. From an egg, both front legs of a young dragon protrude. They move completely uncoordinated at first, but after a few seconds they move at the same time. The cracks in the egg get bigger every time the legs move.
All the eggshells finally break completely and the baby dragons come out in the big nest. Their legs are unsteady at first and a few trip over each other. Some of the baby dragons step on each other in their eagerness to get out of the nest. Soon all the baby dragons have crawled up and are standing in front of the dragon queen making hungry noises. A baby dragon bites the tail of another baby dragon and it looks like they are going to start a fight but they both calm down soon.
The 20 baby dragons that hatch are of different colors. They have these colors: Grey-black-red, Purple-blue with the Milky Way on the wings, silver-gold, amber-yellow, emerald-green, apricot-colored, blue-white, blue-yellow, blue-pink, apricot-yellow, light orange, light blue, light brown, silver-blue, bronze-red, light pink, light beige, orange, white-yellow and bright blue. Some of the baby dragons are males while others are females.
There is a dragon that looks exactly like the male except it has no light blue stripe but otherwise it looks the same. The dragon queen is surprised that it looks so much like its father. One of the baby dragons that hatch also resembles the dragon queen but the pattern is a little different from hers.
The dragon queen moves off to the next nest where she laid the last 10 eggs. The 10 eggs swing against each other and some of them help each other in that way to hatch faster. The clear liquid bubbles so vigorously from some eggs that it foams. It is due to the fierce movements of the baby dragons in those eggs.
One of the 10 eggs sounds a little weirder when it starts to hatch. The dragon queen doesn't get too worried. The baby dragons make different sounds when they hatch and this is normal. Soon large cracks form on the eggs expect from one. From some half-opened eggs, the big eyes of the baby dragons can be seen as they look out at their new surroundings.
The strange sound from the egg continues without a break and the dragon queen wonders why. She sees egg after egg cracking completely and little dragon babies tumbling out of the nest. But there is an egg left at the side of the nest that hasn't hatched yet and it still sounds strange.
The dragon queen moves the newly hatched baby dragons a bit to check why the baby dragon in the unhatched egg sounds so strange and hasn't hatched yet. It soon turns out that the baby dragon is on its way out but is facing the wrong direction.
Although the dragon queen has been careful so that the eggs are in the right place, the baby dragon in the tenth egg has turned around and its hind legs and tail stick out instead of the head. The hind legs kicks wildly and the tail whips at the other baby dragons in the nest. It looks very funny but it's not good for the baby dragon to lie like that because it may swallows some of the liquid inside the egg and that's not good. It can become very sick. The other baby dragons begin to climb out of the nest.
The dragon queen turns the egg so that the baby dragon can come out the right way. It doesn't take long until it is completely out and tumbling around the nest. After a short while it crawls up from the nest to the other nine baby dragons. As with all new hatchlings, it is still a little unsteady on its legs at first but it won't be long before it is walking around like the other ten dragonlings.
Most of the baby dragons that hatch in the last nest are very dark in color. They have these colors: Black-brown, red-grey. blood red, carbon black, black grey, black red, dark brown, dark green, black blue and dark red. Most of the baby dragons are females.
All 70 eggs have hatched without problems. Now it's time to feed the baby dragons. However, the dragon queen first starts by eating all the eggshells that the young have been in. She pours out the transparent liquid that remains in the eggs. The dragon queen instinctively knows that she will be sick if she swallows much of the liquid.
Meanwhile, the male has woken up and is happily looking at the 70 baby dragons who are whining and are hungry. The dragon queen and the male help each other in bringing out food for all the baby dragons. Most of the baby dragons get to share a cow. They don't have stomachs big enough to eat a whole animal yet.
An interesting detail about the newly hatched baby dragons is that 40 of them are males while the other 30 are females. It is very rare that there are so many of each.
The male decides to fetch more food. It may be needed. The dragon queen isn't sure he's right but she lets him fly off and do what he thinks is best.
The male flies to a farm where there are many horses and when he comes flying there is some competition. There are many people there and they stand and watch the horses jump.
The dragon dives down among the people and captures several at once. Those who make it run away in panic and the horses start to panic and create a stampede. Some are knocked over by the horses and is hurt badly. The dragon is filmed by many visitors and soon the videos are spread on Facebook, TikTok, Instagram, Tumblr and Youtube. Some reporters at Sveriges Television and Göteborgs Posten see the films.
The male comes to the cave with the trapped humans and they are killed instantly. When the dragon has put the humans in the food supply, the male and the dragon queen mate. They moan loudly while they mate.
The dragon queen's ovaries have started producing new eggs and the male's sperm fertilizes them. The dragon queen can feel when the eggs start to move towards the abdomen, even if they can't be seen yet.
After the dragons have mated, the dragon queen and the male dragon feed the young a second time. This time they get to taste human flesh while the parents each eat a cow.
This time, the male also has good table manners when he eats from his cow. Both the dragon queen and the male save the cow's bones for the next day.
At 2 p.m. extra news is broadcast on SVT and it is about the dragon's attack on the horse race. Many people both in Gothenburg and other cities see the feature. Hasse also sees the feature. He reacts that the dragon does not kill and devour its victims but only seems to gather them up and fly away. Hasse immediately recognizes the male and is, to say the least, impressed by the size. The dragon has really grown and is even bigger than his own mansion.
After showing the clips, the picture changes to a studio where some younger and older people are discussing what happened. Hasse hears the year 1909 mentioned several times.
1909? What happened then?, he wonders. He goes to his computer and searches Google for "Dragon Gothenburg 1909" but doesn't get a single hit. But the newspapers might have something interesting in their archives. Hasse checks how long Gothenburg Post's archives are open and they are open for four more hours.
Hasse goes to town to check the archives for information. When he arrives at the newspaper editorial office, he is met by a cheerful and cheerful worker. Hasse asks to look in the archives from 1909.
- You want to read about the progress of the dragons in 1909?
- Er, yes.
- Then you will receive the sheets from August onwards. Wait a minute and I'll get them. You can sit in the chair over there if you want.
The worker points to a chair standing next to the reader into which the pages are placed. Hasse goes over there and sits down. Soon the worker will come with the relevant sheets and help put them in the reader and start the machine.
There is nothing interesting about the beginning of August except that it is a very hot month and many elderly people suffer from the heat. Hasse knows that there were no fans at the time that could provide coolness. It is only when Hasse gets to August 15 that he sees an interesting notice.
"Mysterious creatures scare people at Hisingen". The article states that many who live in Hisingen have seen large flying beasts and the beasts have caused many villas to catch fire. Hasse understands that the dragons must have sprayed fire on the houses.
The next day there is another big headline on the front page of the newspaper "Several people and livestock mysteriously missing". In the article, Hasse reads that "several people and livestock have been reported missing to the police and witnesses have seen a gigantic flying monster that has carried cows and other larger animals"
On August 17, the headline reads "Small flying beasts invade Gothenburg". It says that "Large amounts of smaller flying beasts have during the day invaded large parts of Gothenburg's city and created chaos everywhere. No one has died but there are several injured who have been taken to the hospital"
It's been a few days because it's the weekend and the next headline about the dragons is the 22nd of August. "Are dragons invading Gothenburg?" It is the first time that the word dragon is mentioned in the paper. It doesn't say much about their progress, but more about what they might be, and several researchers believe they are dragons.
On August 23, there are once again big headlines about the dragons "Full panic everywhere". The smaller dragons seem to have grown and started attacking the humans. It doesn't say how many but it is clear that there are several deaths due to the dragons and that the hospital is full of injured people.
August 24 is another headline "We must fight back against the dragons!". Several farmers have decided to stop the dragons themselves. They have got hold of cannons and intend during the day to shoot the dragons with it.
The next day there is positive news "We managed to kill 12 dragons" The attempt has apparently succeeded and 12 dragons have been killed by the farmers.
The news after that seems positive, but Hasse chooses to put in September's magazine. There is almost nothing written about the dragons anymore, but on September 6, it seems to be written about them again.
"Panic in Åby and Mölndal. Lots of people and livestock missing" Once again, people have seen a giant flying kite that picked up lots of people and livestock in Åby and Mölndal. Hasse thinks that the skeletons he saw in the cave must be one of the dragons that took the people.
But the next day it says "70 little dragons invade Åby and Mölndal and cause full panic" It says that little dragons are flying everywhere and attack small animals and children in Mölndal and Åby. Someone has managed to count them and has come to the conclusion that there are around 70 of them.
A phone rings in the editorial office and the person who helped Hasse retrieve the papers from 1909 happily answers the phone. But Hasse hears that he will soon become serious.
- What are you saying? Is it true?
- When did this happen and where?
- How many dragons?
- Only one. Okay. And it fetched people but did not eat them.
- Where did it fly?
- Well, I understand that it is not easy to know, but approximately. Did it fly west or north or where?
- So it flew away towards Mölndal and Åby if I understand you correctly?
- Are there any clips of the incident and if so where?
- The news has reported on it already?
- Yes, thank you for letting me know about this incident, bye.
He hangs up and looks sweaty. He waves to Hasse, who is still sitting at the device. Hasse goes over to him.
- It seems that what happened in 1909 has started to happen again. A giant dragon has picked up several people at a horse race and flown away with them. Damn it.
- It sounds a bit crazy but you might get a big scoop.
- Yes, I'm just thinking about what might happen if they start invading the town.
- It will probably work out, you'll see. Thanks for letting me look at the archive.
Hasse walks out of Göteborgs Posten and away to his car. He drives home to Mölndal and keeps scanning the sky. But he sees no flying dragon in the sky, only birds and clouds.
When he is home, he considers whether to go to the cave where he found the three eggs but feels that it is better to do it tomorrow instead. Hasse watches the clip again when the dragon picks up the people at the horse race. Even though what the dragon is doing is completely wrong, Hasse can't help but be impressed by the male's size.
Hasse and goes to bed already at 9 p.m. He is tired and tomorrow he will go to the cave and see if the dragons are there. How exciting it will be. He hopes they remember him.
Meanwhile, in the cave near Åby, both dragons are resting. The dragon queen can feel egg after egg landing in her abdomen. It is both a wonderful and a bit difficult feeling. She looks forward to the baby dragons that will hatch, but it is also a bit heavy for her when her abdomen is full with eggs.
The dragon queen is very close to her nests while the male is quite a distance away. All nests are already prepared with combustible material so the male just have to spew fire on it and the rocks and the dragon queen lay the eggs. In other words, the dragon queen is fully prepared to lay new eggs.
The dragon queen respects that the male wants to sleep in peace. They have both had a lot to do today feeding all the 70 baby dragons. The baby dragons have been fed four times during the day.
They didn't get that much food themselves when they lived with the man who left them. The dragon queen remembers the man and the house they lived in when they were newly hatched. She remembers his scent and voice. She enjoyed living there but it's not something she has missed. The dragon queen is busy with all the eggs and baby dragons now.
After a while, the dragon queen falls asleep. While she sleeps, her abdomen is filled with many eggs. There are more of them than last time.
