New to VRChat? No worries — you don’t need a VR headset to jump in and start exploring! You can enjoy VRChat in what's called Desktop Mode (also known as PC Mode), using just your keyboard, mouse, and monitor — super simple.
To get started, all you’ll need is:
- A computer that meets the basic requirements
- A free Steam account (easy to set up!)
That’s it! You're all set to start your VRChat adventure, no headset required.
There are minimum system requirements for VRCHAT desktop mode:
- Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
- OS: Windows 10 / 11
- Processor: Intel® i5-4590 / AMD FX 8350 equivalent or greater
- Memory: 4 GB RAM
- Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce® GTX 970 / AMD Radeon™ R9 290 equivalent or greater
- DirectX: Version 11
- Network: Broadband Internet connection
- Storage: 1 GB drive available space
Recommended:
- Video Random Access Memory (i.e. RAM on Video Graphics Card):
8GB, or more, can significantly improve performance.
- 1GB drive is the minimum space for the application, VRChat recommends 21.5GB of drive storage to accommodate the application and content cache.
How do I launch VRCHAT in Desktop Mode (first time)?
- Navigate to Steam website (https://store.steampowered.com/)
- Use SEARCH box to find VRCHAT (VRCHAT is free)
- Click ‘PLAY GAME’ button. It is down the page.
- When the box pops up, click ‘Yes, Steam is installed’ or click ‘No, I need Steam’
note: Steam will take about 600MB of drive space
- Sign into your Steam account
- VRCHAT will initialize automatically
How do I get to Putt Putt Quest world in VRCHAT?
- Press ESC key to open QUICK MENU
- Move the mouse over WORLDS (bottom bar of menu) and left click
- Left click the magnifying glass (top right corner) to search
- type Putt Putt Quest and press ENTER key
- click Putt Putt Quest world
- click 'New Instance' button
- click FRIENDS (only your friends can join you, no rabble rousers)
- click JOIN
When you arrive, you'll see the circus tent and bulletin boards. You can pick your golf putter and choose your golf ball color at the tent, and if you need any instructions, just check out the two bulletin board.
Some helpful hints:
hold putter: place mouse-dot on putter and left click mouse
OPTIONAL: change grip on putter:
U/O rotates about horizontal.
I/K rotates about back/forward.
J/L rotates about vertical.
Movement keys: W (forward) , S (backward) , A (left), D (right), < (rotate left), > (rotate right)
Walk to a tee and standing on tee. This opens Control panel.
Place mouse-dot over Control Panel Golf Ball to place ball on tee.
hit ball: When holding putter, place mouse-dot on ball and left click mouse
change hit power: get close to ball, use right/left arrow keys to change power of hit.
change ball direction: Get close to ball. Use Q/E keys to change ball direction before you hit ball.
