Synth is Online!
Based on the story I'd written about him a couple of years ago - you can read this here - I wanted to adapt Synth's written design into something more visually simplistic, both for my sake and artists I'd commission. In the story I'd described him as having this visible circuitry, but while it worked in text I found the designs I kept coming up with to be too elaborate. My dream is to have a fursuit, latex suit, petsuit, VRChat avatar... be able to draw him myself... I had to simplify it a bit. Also I've clearly gone more colorful in my visual interpretation lol ... I love the CMYK color scheme, and I played with hexagons and chevrons to create the synthwave sun motif down the sides, arms, and tail. The exact design was also inspired by wetsuits, motocross gear, skinsuits... any kind of bodysuit, really.
I'll be adapting his story into novels down the road, and do a retcon then lol... I have plans and quite a bit of worldbuilding done regarding that project, but first I need to focus elsewhere. However, here's a bit of the idea I'm going for. Subject to change, of course, but I hope you enjoy:
In Soren's world AnimAI - Autonomous Neohumanoids with Integrated Mechanization and Artificial Intelligence - are creations of endless possibilities. From butler to personal assistant to glorified sex toy, AnimAI are the perfect companions for one's everyday life. As a technician at CyberGenesis Innovations, Soren is responsible for designing and creating these creations, however he secretly longs to not just own one, but to become one. It's a ridiculous idea, but in a future where all needs are met, and the only thing one has to look forward to the daily humdrum, Soren dares to dream a life of unpredictability. He's already sketched up the plans for the AnimAI he wishes he could become, but such dreams are best kept secret.
Soren's next client is wealthy beach resort owner Kai. Clever and handsome, Kai is reluctant to own an AnimAI, but is only doing so in good faith to his family company's partnership with CGI. Realizing the two are dreamers far beyond society's expectations, Kai and Soren share an unlikely bond. Soren is encouraged to share the details about Synth - the AnimAI he secretly wishes he could become. Believing this to be the AnimAI Kai wishes Soren could create, rather than become, he asks Soren to create Synth for him.
However, a freak accident would change Soren's life forever. In an unprecedented turn of events, Soren knocked the framework of the intended AnimAI out of the way and the machine took Soren himself as the framework instead. Locked into the apparatus with no way to override the process, Soren's body was consumed by nanolatex, and permanently transformed into Synth. He was then sent off to Kai to meet his new owner.
At least he got his wish.
As an AnimAI, Soren must accept his new life as Synth, and adapt to Kai's daily life as his devoted companion. Through their shared experience and a passionate bond that transcends forms, Kai realizes the truth about Synth, what happened to Soren, and the way to save his mind from being deleted forever. He helps him overcome his enforced programming to retain his mind, and regain administrative rights to his new form.
Now as a sentient shapeshifting supercomputer, Synth is learning more and more about his new existence and abilities with each passing moment. However, he is also uncovering more and more about his world... and its secrets...
