Eclipse sketch page
I dont think ive shared this character yet but i hope you enjoy the concept :D
A wandering moon spirit, true name Eclipse. Often called lady mirror, Hollow, Devil's angel, or simply the face snatcher. Her face is an absent dark void, those that gaze into her for too long will see themselves reflected back, once that happens those people “lose” their face. They still have their physical face but when they look at reflective surfaces or take photos their face is blocked out with thick black smoke…A sign of the “curse”. Victims of the mirror lady are sometimes mistaken for vampires, changelings, witches or other creatures that imitate humans based on their obscured reflection. People that lose their face to her already had a shaky sense of self, only those with a solid sense of self can face her and walk away. She's most envious of those faces since she can not take them nor mold them to her liking.
Not all hope is lost, there’s two ways to get your face back. Face her again knowing her true name and request it back (very unlikely as she’s highly elusive, there's a chance she might not give it back if she likes it… it's also important to recall what your true face looks like, she might give you back the wrong one), or find your identity(essentially soul searching). After discovering yourself the smoke will clear.
Many view the face snatcher as evil, but she's neither bad or good. Simply neutral and probably depressed. What makes and afflicted ones experience negative or positive is how they react and resolve their lack of a reflection. Many people fall into despair and lose their mind to over-thinking, or forget what their face looked like. Some continue on as if nothing ever happened, others will make the best of it and may potentially unknowingly find themselves and regain their face.
The most difficult way to recover one's face is to go through a spiritual journey or dig deep into oneself and truly answer “Who am I?” Lady mirror takes faces to fill a void within, that void being the lack of an identity of her own… she aches to be seen, even for just a fleeting moment. It's never enough, none of them ever fit or last, sometimes they break. She desires to find a face and keeps trying over and over and over. Perhaps she once had a face of her own… long, long, long ago.
Lost and forgotten…
