Norskia, despite being an iceworld, is not totally bereft of liquid. Besides its oceans, pockets of natural gasses exist within the bowls of the planet in both liquid and solid form. This is due to the intense pressure from the ground around these pockets and the cold temperatures of the planet itself. While most energy and heating on Norskia is produced via the geothermal vents found within its valleys and canyons, vehicles still require fuel to run. While plant and animal byproducts on Norskia are often used to make biofuel, the gas trapped within the planet's crust is a major part of the Norskian fuel economy to run everything from the smallest of generators to reserve engines on starships
As such many facilities exist across the planet to extract these pockets of liquid gas, both on land and sea, and are even beginning to be built on planets within the Norski's stellar territory. The process is not to dissimilar to that of our own world, with the liquid gas pockets being drilled into and pumped to a surface level storage unit where it is then separated into its components to remove impurities and other elements from the fuel. Solid gas pockets are drilled into and then either heated up or depressurized to cause the frozen gas to begin melting, releasing the natural gas within which is then sent through pipes to be stored. Either to be used in its gas form or turned into a liquid through a Syngas production.
Working at such extraction sites is a hard and dangerous job, as the immense pressure constantly exerted by the drills means that a malfunction could potentially blast the fuel upwards through the drill and cause a massive explosion should it come into contact with sparks. Nevertheless, these sites continue to fill a vital role in the Norskian fuel industry and those who work at such rigs need both physical strength and technical knowledge on how to operation the machinery and computer software the monitors and controls the operation of the extraction sites.
It is not an easy job, but it is a respectable one. For without these hard working Norski risking their health and lives to harvest such fuel sources, many Norskian industries would slow to a snails pace due to lack of fuel. Which is why such individuals, often referred to simply as "Riggers" or "Rigs", are protected and cared for by both their unions and Imperial Legislation
