Yus! u.u I’ve progressively been trying to make Ester mork sharky, and ofc they don’t have lungs, so im likely gonna be changing the L O R E to fit that.
The ‘Self Contained Above-water Breathing Apparatus’ [renamed by the very fox im snackin’ on above] is basically a water rebreather.
And yes, the tanks are on the back, and O2 is added, and CO2 eliminated from the circulation in the front module.
How it truly works is kinda handwaved tho as im far from qualified for that xd
Ester uses notably less O2 than mammals such as humans do/would, ectotherm advantage in this case.

You’re actually pretty close without much handwaving off the bat, it’s generally BETTER to have your aeration in the reserve tank as there’s more room for it in there, but the process of getting rid of co2 and re adding free dissolved oxygen is the same step, a bubbler in the water allows both reactions to take place! I actually have a DEEP deep dive modular system on my own page that I use as the basis for my sona, his species, and as a wide use system for other aquatic furs.
Your sharks system off the bat already has most of what’s needed, really the only suggestions I could think of is larger water lines for more flow, and maybe a mask instead of a straw for less ah, drippage. Better to be recirculating and using the same water being filtered than having to treat tap water with salts and dechlorinator every few hours!

Also the gullet anatomy is pretty solid too I’d say, gills are always gonna be in front of the actual throat anyways otherwise Buccal pumping wouldn’t work, and you’d have to glare it to take a sip anyways. Though be careful with energy drinks and gills, those tissues will DEVOUR caffeine if it gets in there, be like direct shooting the stuff into your heart and brain.

My justification for the straw as opposed to a mask [which i was originally thinking of doing but didnt wanna obscure my guy’s face too much], is that the straw extends back into the throat, clipping on to the lip ring at the point where you see the roughly drawn lobster clip, and pooling into the throat, and being pulled out through the gills with a lil suction on the gill hood’s end.
Ester’s throat, just below the gills can close, i have an image of it somewhere, i’ll post it as a ref.
Also, the device may all look small, but for whatever it is worth, Ester is a giant, being ~9’1
